Tom. | Nice. That's the only three band on-board EQ that I've tried that really sounds good to me (i.e., with a mid control that sounds very natural and mimics favoring the bridge pickup). It's a GREAT preamp IMO. That might sell some units! The FBass pre reminds me a lot of the Alleva-Coppolo unit... very, very subtle and transparent. Nice! |

To test it out they would put the bass in passive mode and then use the preamp. It sounds like an F Bass preamp - so you can know use that preamp on all other basses, passive or active. And as all F Bass owners know, one of the main ingredients to the magic of FBasses is the preamp... |

would love to do some for the F bass club. If anyone has any requests just PM me (with a
detailed description of your idea) and I'll do the mockup for ya. Thanks.

Check out the custom BN6 in this video as well as some of the finest thumping heard anywhere. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=T8DHbv1i2ug

It sounds a bit more meaty and modern than the VF's, and is, as expected, closer in tone to the black ash/maple VF. The action sounds super low on all those basses. Are those all still factory set-ups Donovan?
The VF's definately sound more traditional, so I think George hit his mark. I'd love to try one, but don't have GAS. Again, I prefer the little "extra" that I hear in the BN5, and I think they look cooler too. It seems that a few VF5's will finally be turning up around here, so hopefully we'll get some "real life" reviews soon. They seem to be an almost unbelievable value compared to some of the other (almost unbelievably expensive) basses they "compete" with.
I would like to hear what some of those Fbass single coils sound like in a BN5. I hardly ever use the HB mode, and have prefered singles in all the basses I've had. |

BTW, my bass was delivered (to the west coast) with very low action and was very close to the published specs on the FBass website. It was unplayable 'out of the box' for my style, (I guess I'm a little heavy handed ) and IMO, was made worse by the looseness of the supersteps that came stock.
For me, it was basically a full setup (changed to DR's too) to get my bass where it needed to be.
As always... YMMV etc.
Nowadays my BN6 is just too good to be true!
Pat.

I hope Tom don't mind me snaging his pic for posting, but it's the one in Autumn Burst. I'll get new pics taken, but please count me in as a Fbass club member with a number please.
Thanks, Roy

George has definately tried a lot of different things in the past, from neckthrough to headless. Interesting that through all his different designs, he has arrived at very specific, original, standardized recipes for his fretted and fretless basses, and really doesn't offer much deviation. These basses have really been "dialed in". |

+1... The Superstep B sounds better, but couldn't get used to that 'loose feel' of the string rolling on the exposed core.
