They have a similar construction. | I have no experience with igig but i'm very happy with the mono right now.

It's really heavy, but classy and provides really good protection.
At this time I can't make a decision. This will be my 2nd F Bass, I'd like to have another one, but do I really need it? That's the question.

They have a similar construction. | I have both. Both are supposedly 'Nitro friendly', and I've had no issues with my Nitro finished instrument in the Mono bag. I haven't used the iGig with my Nitro finished bass. If you are considering a Portabag, you must get a special 'nitro' cover for the bottom pad from Roger (Roger might have updated the material by this time, but just check it out before you put the Nitro finished F Bass in that case).
The Mono is more comfortable stapped on, looks REALLY cool, and is stiffer but at the same time lighter than the iGig bag I have (the 515 or whatever it is... their 'main model'). The only downside that I see with the Mono is the relatively small pockets. The top neck pocket is big enough only for a few little tools and such, and the main pocket has room for the 'bass basics' (tuner, cables, strap) and not much more. If pocket size isn't key, I HIGHLY recommend this bag.
The iGig pockets are a thing of wonder. You can literally put all your bass stuff, a micro head, extension cord, speaker cables, etc. and STILL have room. It is very high quality, but as stated above, is on the 'bag' side of the hybrid design (i.e., more 'soft' than 'rigid'). Nice bag though, and plenty of protection if you always schlep you bass yourself.
Both are tall/big enough for the largest instruments.

be best with all the pockets. Then again since I will be walking a lot outside with it I
would want it to be rain proof and I think the Mono bag is. I know igig makes that
simple bag that has the rain guard though. Hmmm...
How do I know if I have a nitro finish on my BN6. I got it about 3 months ago and its
all hand rubbed oil finish. Do I have to worry about the bag I buy?

I've seen some guitar stands that say "do not use with nitro finish guitar".
What's the deal?

What's the deal? | It reacts with the chemicals in the material, which basically acts like a mild solvent. The finish will pickup the pattern of the offending material, become dull, or at worst, literally stick to the material (such as an offending strap or something) and peel off the wood (I think this case would require months to years in storage/constant contact tho).
The good news is, as I understand it, it's very easy to buff nitro out and "repair" these situations, but on the other hand, you probably just don't wanna' go there. There's only so much paint on there. |

So what's the point in getting a nitro finish then? Just to be vintage and retro?

Just to be vintage and retro? | Some feel it affects tone in a positive way, others just like the look a bit better, others actually like the fact that it shows wear/mojo sooner in its life. Just a personal pref. However, if durability is your first priority, poly is the way to go. My real first priority is tone, but I personally haven't experienced an appreciable tonal diff between the two, so durability is the biggest significant diff for me. I'm a poly man.
