I am thinking about 70s pickup placement with the ash/rosewood....how different do you think this would sound compared to your with 60s?
Andro | Always happy to help!
With regard to the '60s versus '70s pickup spacing, George's basses are going to respond like any other "Fender-inspired" instrument when you play around with those particular pickup spacings. The '60s position will give you a slightly more round/full/smooth tone, and the '70s position will have more growl/cut and be just slightly thinner sounding.
That being said, I'll add that George's preamp is exceptionally good at providing flexibility within the "Fender tone universe" (and beyond, of course). This is especially true with the VF series. So, if you opt for either '60s or '70s pickup spacings, the Fbass preamp will let you delve into the other decade's tone range a good bit.
Of course, this is all IME/IMHO, and YMMV. |

It is likely that after my AC5 neckthru will be finished the AC6 fretted will be the next move.
As I told you before; awesome piece of Art!
Best regards | Today's roster update welcomes TheSiberian to the club.
Originally listed as a BNF6, but now with the frets, I think that may make this a BN6 now, and my new favorite BN6 to boot. Like my fretted AC6, it has a metal bridge with piezos... and option I am very fond of.

Andro | Just to throw in my 2 cents...
I think this combo would be a really nice balance between warmth and definition, and a very flexible configuration between slap and finger style tones. I would go for a nice "medium"- "medium heavy" piece of ash though....
Cheers,

Should sound great! Lots of mids and smooth highs but with the maple's definition and punch.

Which is going to be stronger for mids, growl, cutting through the band....ash/rosewood or alder/rosewood with 70s spacing?
Thanks! |

Cheers,
Mitch | +1... not because I know anything impressive about this kind of stuff, but because my experience with Mitch tells me that HE *REALLY* knows this stuff.
In fact, as I've talked to George about certain wood options for basses I was considering, George sometimes talked to Mitch and forwarded Mitch's impressions to me.
Mitch really knows tones and woods.

Mitch really knows tones and woods. | To clarify... this statement should in no way be construed to say in any way, shape or form that George does not know woods and tones, because he DEFINITELY does and in the last several years I've come to trust his judgment more than pretty much everyone.
I was just saying that Mitch has a talent for this too, a talent that George recognizes as well.
