I would *love* to show up to a gig with two gig bags and pull out and place on stands:
(1) Fbass AC6 fretless Acoustic
(2) Fbass AC6 fretless (redwood burl)
(3) Fbass AC6 fretted
(4) Fbass BN6
I'd be ready for work then! :-) | I use a double Under Cover gig bag for my Wal Fretless/Fretted combos. They are well made and protective and have two extra pockets...large and small for the additional bits to be carried. |

Actually, I understand this bass is done and is waiting for Mitch to give it a play / QC, and for me to inform George what gig bag to ship with.

I reckon you could rest your thumb on the neck when playing in that area, but I would find it useful just to have a small thumbrest a little towards the bridge... |

((Pun intended...)) | Ironically, I don't use a thumb rest at all; I drag my thumb with my hand and use my thumb to mute strings, so the thumb rest for me is really about looks.
However, I'm not sure what my right hand style on this bass will be yet.
On my current fretless AC6, when I really want an acoustic tone, I hit the dials, then move my right hand up to about the 14th "fret" and pluck with two fingers, like is done on an acoustic upright. In this position, the finger board also acts as a finger ramp of sorts.
If the tone of this bass inspires me to do so, I may well abandon my normal right and technique and go for the index finger, middle finger "walk," in which case I also might use a thumb rest.
I will just have to wait and see.

My wife called George directly and they cooked up this scheme without my knowledge, then I found out about it and ruined the surprise. So I know it is coming and am involved now, but I don't know what it cost. Not yet anyway, nor will I probably until well after Christmas.

I didn't ask for the long thumb rest, but I definitely like the look of it. I'm so curious to see how the sound of this bass will make me alter my right hand technique to make it sound even more like an upright.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2000 Location: Eagle River, Alaska | | When I saw these photos, I was pleasantly surprised.
I was expecting a look much closer to my FRETTED AC6. Note how the flaming seems to cover the whole redwood top on it:
But unless it is just the camera angle, the flaming on my AC6 acoustic is focused more to the center of the bass, especially where magnetic pickups would be. It is more subtle and I just think it looks so cool, and seems to emphasize even more what ISN'T there: magnetic pickups.
Also, when a bass has 3 knobs, particularly if it is passive, it is usually volume, volume tone, or volume, blend, tone. It is very natural to see a 3 knob bass, consequently, staring at 3 knobs on a bass with no visible pickups adds a small bit of mystery to the bass I think. You look at the knobs, then look at the lack of magnetic pickups and wonder what the heck the knobs are for.
I just really like and I can't wait to play it.
