Here's my second F Bass i bought a couple of months after my Studio Bass 5 ...
This Bass have a rich history ...
One of The previous owners was Julian Crampton ( Bass player for The britt acid jazz band Incognito ) . At this moment it was passive & with a fretted Maple fingerboard .
The next owner changed The pups for single coils (made by F ) & added The F preamp ...
Then happened the worse : the neck has been broken ...
After that it has been repaired & the fingerboard changed for
an Ebony one with line markers .
Excuse me for the poor quality carpet pic ....

I do think tuning this bass is more practical than our conventional basses. Rather than reach with our plucking hand up to the tuning pegs on the head, it would be an easy reach to tune near the bridge.

Because it is neck through, the action can be set even lower than my BN6. For my light touch, it makes it a very easy bass to play.
And while the chambers are mostly for tone, an added advantage is my fretted AC6 is lighter than my BN6 as well, making it the first bass I've ever owned that gets played as much or more than my BN6.
And having two magnetic pickups and the piezos, this bass has a lot of sonic range. I'll include two audio clips to show you what I mean.
The first clip is a slap clip played by a friend with monster chops, Edmond Gilmore.
The second clip is me, and it shows some of the sonic range I was talking about. The strumming is done with the piezos, the first part of the solo line was with the 2 magnetic pickups, and the last part of the solo line was with the bridge pickup soloed. I would easily listen to this and believe 3 different basses were played in the clip.
Fretted AC6 audio clips: (1) Fretted AC6 Slap Clip (2) Fretted AC6 chords and finger style clip.

Today's roster update adds a storied, fretless BN5 to ManuBerdin's ownership list.
That looks like a smart buy to me, and having a 5 string Fbass Studio, and a fretless 5 string BN5 will be a nice set of basses to gig with.
Well done!

| | | Hi all, I've gotten my VF-5 recently but I've messed up big time on the pickup setup. Tried to "reset" to the original setup.
After some tweaking, I managed to get back a nice slap tone (both pickup full), but I found the bridge pu vol is lower than the neck pu.
So I tried to rectify the problem by raising the bridge pu height to balance both pu vol, but ended up the slap tone (both pu full) became very thin & clanky..
Really appreciate some help and detailed instructions to re-setup the pickup height properly. Thks..
Hope to share with u guys my VF5 pic soon |

Hope to share with u guys my VF5 pic soon | I can take photos and measurments on my VF5 if that will help, but...
(1) I didn't get my VF5 straight from George, and I don't know if Donovan adjusted its setup before it came to me.
(2) My VF5 is alder and rosewood with pickups in the 60s positions, and I don't know what woods or pickup placement your VF5 is, or if the pickup heights vary between 60s and 70s basses, so maybe my measurements wouldn't be helpful anyway.
The best bet would be to find some factory setup documentation somewhere.

Cheers,
Mitch | [Chuckle] Yes, I heard you've been involved with this for awhile. In fact...
On May 14, 2009, George told me (in emails) about the R&D he was doing on an acoustic AC6. In one of the emails on that day, he wrote that it " looks like a regular AC but sounds like an upright…not close…exactly. Alain and Mitch both flipped out when they tried the prototype."
As I've posted here before, I've wanted two fretless AC6s ever since I got my first one: one with flat wounds, the other with Fbass round wounds.
But when I learned about this prototype, I decided to hold off and see how the project goes.
As Mitch says, this really is a bass to keep your eye on.
George will be bringing 3 with him to NAMM:
o An AC6-acoustic
o An AC5-acoustic with a magnetic pickup option
o An AC4-acoustic
By the way guys, George has made two AC5-acoustics that, to my knowledge, hasn't yet been spoken for.
