If the compression of the neck through bass causes a string to vibrate less, then obviously the string can be set a tad closer to the frets.
However, as George wrote, there are a "multitude of other variables" to consider as well, which is what Joe seems to be saying too.
For example, the bolt on bass could have a top which likewise provides a natural compression to the bass, giving its strings the same vibration considerations as the neck through.
So while "generally" a neck through can be set lower...
"Every instrument is a very individual piece, with varying string tension, mass, density" etc., so it's by no means a given that neck throughs have an advantage when it comes to low set ups.
In short, both Joe and George are right, and I was misleading when I wrote that my fretted AC6 has a lower set up BECAUSE it is a neck through.
Hopefully all that made sense.

If it is generally true there's more compression with a neck-through as George says, then it also does stand to reason you could potentially set the action a bit lower since the strings move a bit less.
However, even if that's true, I wonder if it's enough to make a practical difference... at least on a fretted bass... maybe a fretless, though.
That said, It's been a while since I've had a neck through, so I can't validate this myself, but I've heard from lots of people that neck through designs do have a slightly more compressed sound, which would support George's comments.
All I know is, given a good neck and fret level, I've never had a problem getting my action down as low as I'd ever need it on either style.
FWIW, anyway. |

First, thank you so much for all the kind words that you all have said about me. Without a doubt, the only kind of real advertising I can afford is word of mouth, and I'm so fortunate to have great friends and customers evidently are happy to be my advertisers!
Okay, now on to the important stuff!

It is likely that after my AC5 neckthru will be finished the AC6 fretted will be the next move.
As I told you before; awesome piece of Art!

Best regards | The black "lines" are dyed pearwood, and yes that is a 5 piece neck.
Thanks for your kind words, Sib.

It's hard to say which bass is my favorite - they all sound quite different from each other.
