All things considered, since the volume of this bass is one (so far), I think the price was quite reasonable.
FWIW, I sold the Bongo because I couldn't get over it being neck heavy, and I felt that the electronics were not transparent... no natural sound of the instrument seemed to come through. The F Bass MM/J could not be more opposite. You can feel the sound of the bass in your chest and hear what you are feeling through the electronics. I play it either direct or through a Markbass head (with everything flat), so the sound makes it right through the chain untarnished. | Man, you are doing a GREAT job of stirring up desire for these VF5-MM/J basses, at least you are with me!

We have family all over the world that couldn't be at our son's wedding, so we posted a couple of youtube videos for them. The audio and video quality are quite poor.
Since they are up, it's likely someone will stumble across them and point out that Fbasses were used, so I thought I'd beat them to it and give links here. Cruisin' (BN6) - Not much to say. It's an easy pop song that's fun to play. The girl vocalist is my 2nd oldest daughter. Unforgettable (AC6 Classic) - This was requested by the bride and this is the first time we all played it together. The sax and I were playing by ear and the keyboardist had a chord chart, but that didn't keep us from getting a bit lost from time.
I'm especially sorry about the egg I laid at the end of the 2nd verse.

Don't worry about the video quality... seriously, It's far from the worst I've seen and it's all about the memories anyway. And NOBODY is gonna' remember the 2nd verse egg. Don't sweat it.
Still, 6 basses? Wow, and I thought I was a bass nerd. |

Had you not said anything about playing by ear and that being the first time the group has played the tune together, I would have never known!
Congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law!

... . | I really liked watching that couple get up and dance to "Cruisin'." Only the bass player can make them do that, you know.
Also, that AC you have did not sound too shabby in that other link. |

Thanks, guys for the congrats. I'm very grateful for my family and the choices they've been making.
BTW, not all the extendedFbass family was present. My fretted AC6 and my standard AC6 didn't make the gig. I felt guilty when I came home and saw them there in the band room, neglected. I'll have to make it up to them.

I'll ask the guys if they'll come in and play Unforgettable again in my home "studio" so I can make a clean recording of the bass in context.

I have been wondering for a while, what bass it is, that Alain Caron use when he plays slap style?
( YouTube - Alain Caron - LIVE! - "D-Code" ) It seems like its a P P model (And i know he has a midi pickup attached to the body).
Any clue?

| | | @Manatopain - the best answer to your question would be YouTube - Alain Caron's BN6 (replica announcement) hope this helps.
oh and this is from F Bass.com -
Due to numerous requests we will be crafting replicas of Alain Caron's trusty BN6 from the early 90's. This limited run will consist of 10...the 1st going to the man himself. These BN6's will feature:
-Basswood body
-3 piece maple neck
-Macassar ebony fingerboard (thicker)
-Smaller fingerboard radius (7.25 @ neck & 9.5 @ heel)
-Split coil pickups
-Seymour Duncan Preamp
-Reversed headstock (to modern specs) for tighter low string tension
-Clear pick guard
-Gold hardware with straplocks
-Ebony thumbrest
-Electric Blue Finish
-MIDI/Roland Synth (optional)
-Each replica will be signed and numbered by Alain Caron |
