Yeah, I kind of realized that after I posted that, but left it as it was.

I had no desire to own a VF5 until I heard Donovan's youtube clip... then I wanted to get it before someone else did!

I'm not as good as you and Vic and narrating descriptions of tones, but I do know when I hear something I like, and the tone of this VF5 changed my mind completely about a line I was definitely skeptical about.

I touched on this earlier, but the three basses I have that sound the most different recorded than live also happen to be my three alder bodied basses: my Fodera Yin Yang, my Alleva Coppolo Custom, and my Fbass VF5.

It leaves me wondering if that is a characteristic of alder body basses, or if I've just stumbled into a really big coincidence.

+1 They all sound good in their own way.

Cool on part 4! We need a refresh over on the Sadowsky and Alleva-Coppolo threads also!

I wonder if I should suggested to the club managers that they start their own new thread.

The clubs like it, because it gets the next chapter going, something we all love to see.

And I think the moderators like it too because it is less work for them to close the old thread than it is to post links to and back between the old and new threads.

This way they can close the club threads on their own time without worrying about how big they are getting and the problems that pop up from overstuffed threads.

I wonder if *I* can close part 3 though, seeing as I opened it. It's not under thread tools....

I took your lead and opened a new Alleva thread, as you know. I just sent a PM to Ryan L. asking him to close the old 1000+ post thread at his convenience. I'm assuming (and hoping!) I'm making his job easier.

I know what you mean, but John Turner seemed to take it all in stride when I did that with part 3 of the Fbass thread, so I think we're all okay.

Okay, the new thread needs to be ushered in with photos, so I took a quick break to snap this today:

Is that a clear ramp I see between the PU's on your VF5?

[Chuckle]

I injured my left hand yesterday and can't play right now... instead I'm photographing basses and burning too much time on talkbass I guess.

Huh.

Is it me...

... Or does that couch look like it has room for 1 or 2 more?

Yes, but it is just part 1 of a 2 part ramp. George is currently making me another one to go between the bridge and the bridge pickup.

The BN6 likewise has a plexi ramp between the two magnetic pickups.

I'd like a plexi ramp for the BN5 too, but I need to get making money before I can spend for one. Besides, the wider pickups of the BN series makes doing without a ramp not so hard.

By the way, I hope everyone will forgive me the ebony bridge on my AC6, but I honestly just LOVE it!

Because everyone seemed to object to it though, instead of screwing it down, I taped it, but in a weird way. Instead of taping it to the body, which I couldn't bring myself to do because of the finish, I taped it to the SIDE of the magnetic pickup. That way, if I ever take the ramp off (doubtful), the tape I'll be removing from the bass won't be from the finished body, but from the side of the pickup casing, which no one can really see.

Of course I'm ribbing you, youngling.

Love that enhanced grain on the BN5. Is it easy to ask for something that pretty or is it pretty much left to the wood gods?

I plan to be hear for a long time my friend. I am still an Fbass wannabe, until I graduate.

And in all honesty, I am second guessing my choice to splurge now instead of just keep saving.. You guys are a big influence!
