But Im agreeing with Tom here.. it will take me forever to get the Fbass. I spoke to my dad, and he said its cool to buy a bass now and then if the resale value is close or the same when I get the rest of the cash to buy the Fbass, I can sell the bas I get now.
Im sorry if thats not how you feel Tom, I dont want any hard feelings, but thats my plan for now.
Thanks for all of the advice though! Im taking it all to heart.
Or maybe not.. The stress is kicking in again. And Tom, I plan to work like crazy in these coming months towards getting the Fbass.
Decisions, decisions.

If you know what you want, do what it takes to get it.

...
Again, there is NOTHING wrong with a Fender Jazz bass. If you spent 30 minutes more a day on it, and less time lusting after everything that happens to meet your current savings, just think what kind of a player that will make you when you move in to the new BN5. | This post really confused me. In fact, I just deleted a rebuttal to it because I misunderstood it.
Here's the thing... compared to an F, the basses on his list (and I know exactly what the list is, he PM'd me), aren't on the same level, but they also don't qualify for the kind of basses you're saying he shouldn't get. They were all really very nice and completely viable instruments that would carry him very nicely until he could afford an F, and IMHO, having one of those until he could afford the F, makes a lot of sense.
That said, I just noticed he has a Geddy... I have one of those too and I must say, that's a bass that'll carry him pretty darn far as well. |

Just like most people get basses while waiting for a custom to be built, thats kind of like what Im thinking of doing.
And chill Thndr, I havent said Im getting anything for sure yet.

The Geddy is a great bass. It's not some compromise bass. I've heard it in a youtube clip, it sounds great.
I haven't seen Jordan's wish list, but I've seen what he's saved so far and I seriously wonder how big of a step up most basses in that price range would be over the Geddy. I seriously doubt any of them would be.
In other words, Jordan appears to be tempted to blow his savings for a bass that probably isn't any better than what he has, except that it has another string, and that doesn't make sense to me, especially when his heart seems set on an Fbass, he just can't afford it yet.
And if Jordan DOES get a 5 string now that is pretty much on par with what he's got, all he's done is make it that much harder to ever have the bass he most wants.
I have 4 sons, ages 20, 18, 17 and 16. Jordan's plight is VERY familiar to me, and that's probably why I'm basically saying what his dad is saying, only from a bass player's perspective.
He's already got a great bass. It's not like his Geddy is going to hold him back. With it, he can learn a ton and grow as a player, contribute to his band in a meaningful way, and have a ton of fun doing it.
So do it.
Meanwhile, save, and one day the right bargain will come along and he'll be ready for the opportunity.
Blowing the money now only blows his opportunity to have something truly ahead of the pack.

It's probably bad form to ask for help, then snip at those taking the time to give it.

It's probably bad form to ask for help, then snip at those taking the time to give it. | I didnt mean for it to come off in a rude or crude way, just me and Thndr chat in a lot of other threads and PMs, and were buds. It was more of a friendly gesture than anything. I just forgot to add the ever so inportant emoticon. Smilies sure do change things.
And I havent decided on a plan as of yet. If I were to get a bass now, the resale value of the ones Im looking at would be the same as the price I purchased them for.
But again, Im not saying this is a definite plan.
And again guys, I didnt mean to start any fights or misunderstood confrontations. Sometimes my posts can be taken wrong, or I have even seen them read wrong than what I am meaning to say.
Again, I apologize. I am grateful for all help, whether it be good or bad, as always! If not, I wouldnt ask.

Generally speaking, people don't like being told to chill, so I was just trying to make sure we all continue to visit in peace and harmony in this thread.
Sounds like you're fine.

Sounds like you're fine. | Again, I apologize for bringing tension into this thread. I shouldnt have put so much into the thread, a lot of it was more or less thinking out loud.
I know youre just watching out for me Tom, and thats awesome! Really, I appreciate all of the care this thread has given me. If I didnt feel welcome, I wouldnt keep coming back!
No hard feelings from anyone I hope!

And don't apologize for thinking out loud here, it is part of what this forum is for.
For me, Fbass is a bass I very much respect and enjoy, but it certainly is not my religion, you know?
I've seen nothing wrong with your participation here, except I worried (apparently needlessly) about the chill comment.
You're fine.

And again, worrying just shows you care.
Im talking to my dad right now, actually, about the whole thing. He usually has the right words, as I never buy or decide on anything without a nudge from him.
Sometimes, tough love is the best love.

I know its not an Fbass, but it plays like "my" bass.. I was told by you guys that a bass should be one that makes me happy, and that is what I have found in that bass.
I thank you all for everything, and I would love to hangout in this thread if its still okay. I have grown to enjoy conversing with you guys.
And I will have an F someday, but for now, the HH is the "one".
I thank you all again.

However, when this beauty of a BN5 ended up in my local bass shop (after being on the TB classifieds for a bit), well... (There is no smilie for <spontaneously explode>.) I decided over the past year never to buy another bass that is not 19mm and in the range of 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" at the nut. With those specs, the gorgeous finish, and sound that goes with the looks, I became an F man. I'll go into some detail (at Tom's request) in future posts regarding the buying process, the sound, the fit and finish, how the VF5 and BNF5 next to it sounded, how it compares to my MTD 535, etc., but for now have some bass pr0n. Maybe check with your spouse before looking if it'll make you feel better. I did a photo shoot this morning, using the sunlight coming in our dining room window to light this baby up. FYI, these photos are not cropped, enhanced, or altered in any way. Came straight off of my Nikon. Enjoy.
I worked out a secret payoff with Tom to secure #78. Happy to join the club. The specs are: Palisander Rosewood Fingerboard, Figured Maple Top, Auburn Burst Finish, Body Binding, Winter 2008 NAMM bass. |

I don't think they have brick and mortar anymore. What a STUNNING, unique F Bass. Just beautiful! OMG that bass is goooooooood lookin'! Congrats! Quote:
