Mine:
JJ4 is 8.0
PJ5 is 8.6

And for grins:
Grosh PJ4 is 9.0
Fender MIM PJ4 is 9.2

There is no "normal'' Miss Bluesy.
It's all about what works for you!

You can ask what various folks, using similar stuff, who seem to have similar preferences, and find works for them....but this is totallly a case where "it's all about you, and that's just fine."

I'd be glad to tell you exactly what I do, with any given rig, on any given night, for any given genre, situation, song, etc...

I've been using all my particualr bits and pieces for a while, so, I know where my baseline is at, and from there, I make most of my changes with a touch of vtc, a teensy bit of bass/treb adjust depending where pickup bias is set, and *most importantly*...what I'm doing with right hand technique.

A lot of my sonic adjustments during any given show come simply from right hand placement, and adjusting how I "attack" the strings...

I hope that doesn't sound all obtuse and obscure.
Ask anything you want to!

Seing as this brill new axe is
a) my first active Jazz, and
b) my first Jazz, period,

I've been working more to dial in the wicked noises than probably most of you guys have to. I've come across some sounds that I really like via the Sadowsky YouTube channel and so on, and I figured I'd just ask about some of what I'm hearing. Or rather, one for now, to keep things from getting irritating.

I quite like this guy's slap sound. I get a 'direct-to-board' feel from the bass's voice, but anyone care to enlighten me on what his pre settings might be?

enjoy~~!! Slap Bass !! - YouTube

That sounds and looks like 70's bass with 70s pickup spacing.

I do just the opposite. I set the amp in the middle of where I want to be tone-wise, then change it up at the bass. I don't have time to keep walking over to the amp to get a new tone. Usually, I use the pickup blend to make the biggest adjustments, maybe with a little bass boost and/or mid cut/boost.

And, even if these are some old pics, on this corner!, my one and only PJ4 with its one-piece-solid-flamed-ash-body at 8.4 lbs (and that's with the bell cover on):

Fran, it's an honour to follow that one with another one of a little different flavour but just as delicious.
