Funny story....my second Sadowsky, which I bought new from the shop.....maple/ash w quilt top cherry burst....
Anyway, my daughter was about 3 at the time ( she's 15 now). We're at home, it's about noon so I make a snack- standard issue peanut butter and bread.
Give a slice to my daughter and I partake in a slice of the creamy goodness myself.
Phone rings.
I get up and answer it. Talk for a few to who ever it was.
Go sit back down.
My daughter I assume finished her slice of the heavenly delight I so lovingly spread across what some compare things to being better than (a slice of bread)- I should note I thought this was done in record time for a three year old.
Anyway, my little blessing was being such a delight and wanted a second helping. So, being the sensitive and caring individual I am, I naturally obliged my offspring with another.

So, about 20 min later, I decided that I would go grab my about 2-3 month old shiny new Sadowsky 5 from the other room.

Chris Swoop was a tremendous help over the phone setting the pick-ups back to factory height after I had to remove them to clean off the creamy peanutty deliciousness that had seemed to invade just about every nook and cranny possible from the neck pickup to the bridge.

Toddlers with peanut butter and Sadowskys don't mix.
Really, about the only mix a Sadowsky DOESN'T sit well in is peanut butter.

Yuuuck. I guess that required a string change...

New Sadowsky For Christmas

New NYC Sadowsky Came Yesterday for Christmas Eve. I have a couple hours to run through it's paces compared to the MTD I have and Fender CS Relic 64 before the big family event later this afternoon.

Pic of Christmas morning at the Michricker household, the competitors await. NYC vs MTS vs CS

Merry Christmas all.....

Thanks Ivan.

I had to to a set up with some new daddario xl170s trying to get lowest action possible. Strings that came on it were shot.

Here is some initial impressions of my first NYC 5.

1). I have the action on B as low as it can go and still wish I could go a little lower. I will need to find a good B taper wound for this bass.

2). With this wood combo of ash brazillian on a 5 it actually reminds me abit of the Fodera Emperor 5 tone. Modern, deep, and growly. To get some sparkle on the top end I have to boost the treble a little. Has a fantastic supportive tone. I can imagine ideal for live and studio work in a mix. Does not sound like the fender CS IMO and definitely not like the über modern MTD. All three from my first impression have their place and fantastic in their own right. I like the solo tone of the cs and mtd but imagine the sadowsky would fit in a mix the best.

Sadowsky: great low end growl with clear highs and abit of scoop in the upper mids. The HC pickups are definitely on the modern side being clear and open.
MTD: Tight, clean and clear. Wood combo is alder with maple neck and board. Sounds great for smooth R&B type tones, especially in a mix. Totally opposite tonal spectrum than the sadowsky.
Fender 64: not as much low end as the Sadowsky, more growly midrange likely due to the single coils. More aggressive top end.

3). The 1.75 neck is fantastic. I can imagine not liking the wider neck as much. The neck has a little more girth than the MTD. This is a solid ash body on this bass and weighs in at 9.1lbs. The MTD is 8.4 and the fender CS64 is also 8.4. The Sadowsky feels nicely balanced, the MTD feels a little better balanced and ergonomic out of the three.

So far, I can imagine this bass being a keeper once I master the set up, find the right strings to get the B action a little lower, and possibly try some single coils to get improved the upper mid range growl. If I had to get rid of one of these basses I would have a hard time choosing at this point!!!!!! They are all at the top of their game in their own niche.

Hi all,
I am joining the club, ahead of schedule! Found a beautiful looking NYC J from 2000 for a great price, I'll get it in the post next week.
A question for those who have played basses pre and post modern enhancements of the early 2000s (chambered body, graphite reenforcement). Should I be expecting a bass of the same quality if it does not have those features? I ask only out of sheer ignorance, and am very much looking forward to adding a sadowsky to my collection!!
Thanks!

The Sadowsky Blue Stainless are tapered B.
And yessir, the Sadowsky single coils are a total must have, for me.

For an ash brazilian rw combo how much will moving from hc to sc pickups change things? Tone and dynamics wise. Big difference?

While I don't have that wood combo, for me, the HC's have more mid scoop than I dig.
I've only had 5 string versions of SC or HC.

I have an ash/maple Sadowsky 4 string and switched from HC to SC. The SC's definitely have a stronger midrange presence and to my ears, are a little less compressed sounding than the HC's.

It wasn't a total night and day difference though, those HC's are slammin pickups in their own right, but the SC's work a little better for me.

While I've never had the SC's, I read quite a bit about them in my debate to go that way. The consensus I found was that there seems to be a more discernible difference in HC vs SC when your talking about a 5 string rather than the 4 string versions.
