Modern Pickup placement

Unlined Ebony board with 20 'frets' (because Jaco only needed 20 frets......and didn't need a b string....but well that's besides the point!!!!!)

Heading my way later this week!!!!

Got this in yesterday and had some time to wank around on it.

As with every single one of Roger's basses I've owned (WAY too many, seriously I need to stop with the GAS), the acoustic response of this bass is amazing. Each note leaps off of the fretboard and I can feel the notes vibrate into my chest. IMO that's a large part of what makes Roger's stuff so great.

So I get home, plug into my rig (Genz streamliner 900 switching back and forth between a Berg NV215 and an Accugroove Tri112L), and the term 'Jaco on steroids' immediately popped into my head. If 'that jaco sound' is a delicious low-fat turkey sandwich of the finest ingredients, then this bass is a big ol' Pastrami on Rye from a NYC Deli.

Pickups blended?

Nice and neutral fretless tone that responds very well to hand positioning. I'll end up using this 90% of the time.

Neck PUP Soloed?

VERY Pbass-inspired. And I spent years on a fretless 78' Fender P.

Bridge PUP?

Like I said, big ol' fat and meaty tone.

Another added bonus is that to my ears this bass has more inherent lowend meat than any other Modern/M5-24 Bass I've owned (1 Metro, 2 NYC's with mahog and ash bodies plus ebony boards). Don't know if it's the ash/ebony combo in a fretless package, if it's the unchambered body, or if Roger just somehow knew that I like Roland 808-inspired B string tone.

Clips to come, and thanks again to Roger and Kevin and everyone else!

If anyone has a Will Lee 5 they would like to trade for the NYC modern 5 I have for sale in the classifieds, please give me a shout. I'm trying to sell it in order to finance the WL5 in stock at Sadowsky, but I thought I'd mention a trade as well.

I remember seeing a PJ5 version of that config and ALMOST doing something stoopid with a credit card. ENJOY!!

I just swapped my alder/braz RW PJ5 for an ash/maple PJ5 and couldn't be happier.

I presume and ash/maple PJ would sound about the same as my MV5-PJ; which I just love, and have been using a lot lately in two new projects.
Man, that thing fills up sooo muuuuch space, sonically. Fat-fat. Yet, crisp, clean and clear, cause, ya know, it's a Sadowsky.

Thanks guys - yeah, for a P, Ash/Maple is the way to go for me personally.

I like the Ash/Maple config on a JJ too... probably my favorite, but I do have a soft spot for Alder/Rosewood on a JJ. Just classic.

This P Build was inspired by the good ol' classic look of the Fender 57' Reissue. Can't beat it IMO.

Thanks guys... after yesterday, I needed this laugh for sure. One of the hardest days I've had to endure in a long time.

Just picked up a nice metro Rv4 in trade. It's sounds great and is relatively light (sub-9 lbs) but it does have some neck-dive.

Has anyone swapped their Sadowsky tuners with res-o-lites or hipshot ultra-lite's?

Do they fit? Pics please.

Obligatory proof of bass, no number necessary.

If anyone ever has a 5 string Sadowsky P for sale (not PJ), let me know. If Modern Growl's new bass had another string, I'd sneak over to his house, create some sort of diversion, grab it, and run like heck

Seriously, though. Looking for an additional 5 string P with a bit of a different vibe (i.e., an active Sadowsky).
