Just curious if the roasted maple necks and fingerboards have to have a finish or if they can be unfinished and oiled? | Well, oil is a type of finish. Any wood can be oiled. And roasted maple should be more stable than anything else.

I would, however make the following suggestions for improvement, if I may be so bold: - Screw terminals, rather than short solder leads, for the pickup connections. This would make the bass completely user-installable.
- Lengthen the battery and output leads. Neither were long enough to fit in my deluxe, and had to be extended by my tech (at added cost for the additional bench time).
| Thanks for the feedback....everyone keep it coming.
I am already looking at screw terminals for version 2 and thanks for the input about the length of the jack and battery clip.

Who puts a shim on a Sadowsky anyway? That's like putting a fart pipe on your Aston Martin. | I have never been opposed to shims if you run out of travel on the saddles for adjusting the action......they do not affect the tone IMHO. However, if someone put one on the neck side, it means they could not get the action high enough.....which makes no sense to me.

I think my next build will be a roasted BE Maple FB with Ebony Blocks and the neck will be roasted maple both oil finished.
Thanks Roger |

Roger | My point was that after you spend so much time sanding the pocket to ensure its flat it seems counter productive to place a piece of card stock (or guitar pick as I found once) just to offset that.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Oct 2000 Location: Roanoke, Va. | | I got my first Sadowsky this week. It's a used PJ5 (4288) that was built in 2005. I was told it was once owned by Tully Kennedy.
It was kind of a mess when I received it but after a good cleaning it looks much better. The body is in great shape but there is
some nice chips in the finish on the headstock. For an 8 year old bass that I think has been played a lot it has some nice mojo
but is still in pretty good shape. The strings that are on it now are completely dead so I'm putting new strings on tomorrow.
I have gigs on Friday and Sunday so hopefully it will work out and I will use it for many more gigs in the future. Here's a pic.
