T2k5, neat about the buckeye. Lots of builders use it as a top but Chris has always maintained that it was too soft to anchor a bridge through. I'll be interested to see how he does the routing to put a more solid wood in it's place.
Sweet bass Carnavos - I've always really liked that one.
I just noticed that Chris has a new offering on his merchandise page. You can still get a Stambaugh Designs cap (and I still might) but I think this is a much cooler offering.
Yeah, I'll take a set of those. |

In the homebrewing world we call bottling day, "bout time". |

Got it! I now sound a bit more intelligent, especially considering I'm playing an upright this sunday.
Now to just be 21 and have use for some Stambaugh glasses

Now to just be 21 and have use for some Stambaugh glasses | And it's a way to identify country of origin or style of bass:
Italian basses often had 'violin corners' - curved pointy bouts
German basses have the plain straight corners. |

I showed him a winery themed guitar and it makes me wonder about ordering a guitar or bass with a brewing theme. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. |

The SGD ND3 pickups for my fretted hollowbody just arrived at Chris' shop. I went with the TBird size in chrome covers.
Doing a chrome Hipshot D style bridge with utralite lollipop tuners:
And found some slick knobs and matching switch tip:
Hoping to do a turqoise burst like this
on this shape bass:
Should all look pretty sweet. Hope everybody had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. |

And Sam, did your Tele ship?
I'm still waiting on my second fiver to be done at the finisher. I know the initial holdup was because I changed colors at the last minute and candy orange/tangerine is a special order, but the silver one was done in mid November so I'm not sure why it's taking so long.
Snagged a pair of Stellartone Tonestylers (one original 16 position version and one new 6 position version) for my silver fiver and my fretted hollowbody. |

Trust me, I'm checking my inbox almost every hour in hopes of an unread message from Chris, and the moment it happens, Talkbass will be the first to get a long drooling post about it

In other news, I just checked my email, for the hell of it, even though my mail app showed no new messages, and lo! A wild email from Chris appeared (Pokemon reference...had to...)! She'll be ready to ship tomorrow, and should be in my hands Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, so using my patent-pending Figure Out What Chris Really Means When He Gives You An Estimated Time Formula, I can safely assume she will get to me sometime between the Friday of next week and the Monday I start my real semester.
The strap buttons (recessed) go on today, and I'm hoping I get some full body shots before she goes out.
Okay, done being civil about this. SHE'S ALMOST DONE!! :hype r: :

Still very much on the fence with my next guitar or bass. I was leaning towards headless for bass, but it sounds like the Hipshot bridge has an issue. Still thinking about a 7 string with Aero DCs and a Pope pre, a J/JJ 6er with MIDI, an ES335 type guitar with MIDI, or a P90 Les Paul Jr carved top type guitar.
Something like this is a little enticing. |

Something like this is a little enticing. | That is some amazing koa on that top. And costly too I'm sure, if you can find it. But you could surely get some bubinga with sapwood that would have the same vibe for less if need be.
Very cool guitar. And definitely something Chris could do. I prefer the idea of one with a beer or homebrewing theme, but an exotic top would be sweet too.
I'll need to avoid these threads when my current batch is done if I'm really going to stop buying new basses (or guitars). The goal was to have a complete stable (super jazz with rounds, Ric/Pbass with nickels, hollowbody with flats, piezo only fretless, Wal-like modern bass) and I think I'll be more than satisfied.
But looking at what Chris can do and knowing his quality and prices, it's hard NOT to think about more projects for him. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
