Very cool guitar. And definitely something Chris could do. I prefer the idea of one with a beer or homebrewing theme, but an exotic top would be sweet too.
I'll need to avoid these threads when my current batch is done if I'm really going to stop buying new basses (or guitars). The goal was to have a complete stable (super jazz with rounds, Ric/Pbass with nickels, hollowbody with flats, piezo only fretless, Wal-like modern bass) and I think I'll be more than satisfied.
But looking at what Chris can do and knowing his quality and prices, it's hard NOT to think about more projects for him. | I'm not really set on copying this guitar exactly with a top or specs, but more or less what I have in mind. Semi-hollow, L Junior carved top shape, P90s, a nice top, and some bling. I'd really like the pickup covers to be cut from the top, which will require a thicker top, too. I'm not even sure if I want 2 pickups vs. 3. Oh well, I have time.
Still, I might consider a headless 7 string bass if I hear confirmation that the Hipshot system is improved. |

Anyone interested in owning a bass featured as 2012's January BOtM?

Here's my "sneak peak" from Chris. Dear god I don't think I've ever seen something so beautiful before... She shipped the ninth and is scheduled for delivery on Monday, which is a nice surprise!
And as another testament to Chris being such a stand up guy, he told me 2 of the middle strings broke during the fret dressing, and he threw on some Mangan Stainless's and included an extra 20 for replacing them, and the other high strings, which could have been equally weakened.
How does this guy make money?
Well, I'm off to go stare at that picture and post about it all over Facebook! Hope everyone's basses (or guitar ) get done soon as well!
Edit: Dang Sam...just...dang! What's the inlay on the pickguard?

(spoiler alert: this is the best and most beautiful bass ever!)

Looks like I have some new instruments to add to the TB Stambaugh gallery.
Personally, I'm still waiting on my fivers. Chris sent me pictures of the silver one exactly two months ago and the orange one apparently STILL isn't done at the finishers. Very frustrating.
But my hollowbodies are well underway so that's nice. SGD pickups are done, hardware is on it's way to Chris' shop and all the other decisions have been made.
Now we play the waiting game. . . Ahh the waiting game sucks! Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos! |

Now we play the waiting game. . . Ahh the waiting game sucks! Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos! | Hopefully I can do it sometime this Thursday. I'll be at my parent's house with my rig sometime around mid-afternoon, but then I'm working at my parents ranch Friday and Saturday, Moving into my dorm Sunday, and starting classes Monday. Somewhere in there I will do a full review. And yes, you'll have quite a few additions to the gallery in a few weeks here
You know what really helps with the waiting game? Looking through all the bass tops on wood sites and dreaming up more basses with all the ridiculous doodads and wing-zingers! It's what I did. Well...that and school. School keeps you pretty preoccupied.
Edit: It's impossible to tune the A string C#-E are Hipshot ultralites, and A-Eb are Sperzel locking tuners. All other strings work fine, but the A string cannot be brought up to tension. It gets about a quarter-tone shy of tuned, then the gear snaps or something and it falls back down to 1/2 step flat Chris is mailing me a non-locking tuner to see if that works, but if not...then the troubleshooting begins. I'm already trying to figure out how to fit an ultralite on there. I feel like that's gonna be the best solution.

With the pushpull down, the options
would be the normal ones- 1, 1+2, 2, 2+3, 3.
With it up, they are 1, 1+2, 2, 1+2+3, 1+3. |

Then (as I just did) give him some grief about said beer.
In bass related news we found out why my orange fiver has been delayed so long. Apparently House of Kolor is completely out of Candy Tangerine and has been for months. Sheesh.
On the good side the silver one should be headed back to Chris and then to me.

I don't think I ever found out of Brian has celiac disease or if he's just on a gluten free kick. I loves my barley a little too much to want to mess around with that. |

Part of the gluten free fad. I have a few friends who have celiac disease who wish they could drink normal beer. I don't think I could handle such a diagnosis without jumping off a building.
The guitar arrived in town yesterday at my UPS/FedEx dealer. They're only open until 6pm, which inconveniently when I get off work. Zero chance of getting off early and/or making across town quick enough. I'll have to settle for tomorrow. The wifey doesn't know about this one, along with dang near everything I've purchased over the last 3 years. |

I tuned it up when I got it home. Already plays great. Sounds really nice. The Fender Noiseless really do a nice tribute to vintage sound without the unwanted buzzing. I'm especially pleased with the additional wiring of the neck+bridge and all pickups.
The B Bender system is pretty cool.
It arrived with a really nice setup. Unlike a Fender, mine has a pretty flat fretboard and plays effortlessly. The neck has a super comfy shape to it. Unlike my bass, I decided to not go with a really thin neck so I could grab the neck to utilize the B Bender.
Naturally, I plan on getting another Stambaugh or....four. I am on the fence if it'll be a bass or another guitar. |

Also, I finally got a few good shots of mine:
Full shot
Close-up of the neck
The back
The Bridge
The inlay
And finally, a shot to trivialize the complaints of both the size of a 6er/Warwick's neck and the weight of any bass under 15 lbs...
I played it again today and nearly quit until I realized if I put the strap up closer to my neck and not so far out on my actual shoulder, I wouldn't be wasting so much energy supporting it!

Just the neck on that thing is stunning.
And I don't think I even want to know how much that behemoth weighs. |

Those were taken by me with my friend's iPhone 4 in my dorm room under bright fluorescent lighting in the span of about 3 minutes...And I just realized my suitemate has a "real" camera... that's it, tomorrow I'm gonna get outside and take some natural lighting shots so the bass actually looks good!
And I'll say it anyways... My best guess is the weight is close to 20 lbs...
