I am building this bass and is/was going to be a satin clear finish. But I am not sure to keep it that color or go with one of the otions in the poll. Let me know what you think. Also I only have the one picture but you can imagine what it would look like in the other colors. Let me know what you think.
I voted clear satin, but would really prefer gloss. Cool looking bass. I'd be interested to know how it sounds with those pickups in tahe position you've got them located.
Nice grain. Whatever you do don't paint it anything but a trans finish.

I voted clear because I like the grain of the wood. Personally, I would prefer clear gloss over satin. If you want an easy clear finish with a slight amber tint to it try Tru-Oil.

I typically prefer solid colors, but I'd have to vote for translucent on whatever you go with. I'd say translucent "wine" that was used on some late 70's basses. I'm sure it will lool nice whatever you do, and good job with the pickgaurd design. That's always a tricky thing to go off the path of what is "standard" but you're pulling it off with that one I think.
I voted honey burst, but on another look clear may be nice. Good luck; I envy people who build instruments on their own. That is something I will try myself in the future. Good luck.
Of those choices I like the clear. Nice design. Love the guard. It's different but not crazy.
Thank you. The P-guard is a hard thing to come up with when you do not want it to look just like someone elses design. I still need to tweek the design a little IMO, which I will do on the next build.

Thank you to all and here is a sound sample of the bass. I put it together and straight wired just the MM style pup to the guitar cable. I am using Jamup app with their GK rig. I am also using a pick and there are no effects being used and no electronics at all just pup to cable. I think this passive set up sounds just like a MM SR. The bass when finished will also have a p-bass pup in the neck position and active 3 way electronics. Hope you like!
Given how well the grain highlights the body, I'd go with clear or maybe an old Fender style 2 tone burst. I'd also be tempted to tint the grain filler to futher highlight the grain.
After looking at the picture of your bass (very nice, by the way), I had to go look at my '78 P-bass, 'cause the grain in yours looked familiar. My P has a grain pattern pretty similar to yours on the front, and it is the old 2-tone burst. So, honey burst for me.
