I'm the guy who in June posted the picture of the '62 P for sale, found the pic just by doing a google image search. The similarities are uncanny; though the sunburst finish (or what's left of it) is very worn that could be caused by removal of the refinish (auction description mentions the bass had been refinished black over the original 3-tone sunburst). The chip on the pickguard was the detail that got my attention first, as it has a similar shape & size as the one on The Funk Machine.

Wow. Green flake and stickers of women. It should be horrible, but it punches through the horrible barrier to a new level of trashy funktastic.

My personal favorite was Steve Harris's 71 when it was painted with the blue flake. Also, there was a local guy around me that had a mid 70s in hot pink. Don't know if it was factory or not.

Awesome!

Edit to add -

I also have the book that picture came from, and loved that bass loooong before I even knew who Duck was. Honestly, I think this bass is the winner, and we can lock this thread now. :-)

Purchased earlier this year:

Nice playing instrument though turning wrong tuner is a constant problem.

Thanks people! You've done absolutely nothing to cure my GAS.
However, 'er indoors has given the green light on a new year purchase of an American Standard Precision.
I might wait for NAMM to see if there's anything sexier than a 3TS with Maple neck.

At the risk of a hijack, can anyone tell me why Fender do a white pickguard on the MIM but not on the MIA 3TS?

It's gotta be the Mike Dirnt. I've got a Squier one, wish I could afford the Fender for the sake of the Badass bridge and better pickups.

I had been wondering who might have ended up with that bass. Very unique finish. I had been watching that one for some time on Rainbow Guitars website. How do the pickups sound? Also is that a jazz profile neck?
