Which Cort bass?

Hi
I can't decide which 5 string to get?

B5
GB75
Curbow 52

None of my local store sell Corts so I can't play them and will have to order one online.
I prefer the look of the GB75 and B5 but love the modern sound of the Curbow 52 on youtube!

Which stores sell these online?
How much do they cost?
Any comments or suggestions by Cort owners on the build quality of these basses, their playability and sound?

Cort GB75 in (seethru) white/blonde on ash finishings

Forget the others, believe me

The Curbow is only good if you dig compact shaped basses... then nowadays comes in true maple and sports dual Bartolinis much like the (bolton) Artisan B5.

But the sound is completely anonymous, while the GB series aim to combine StingRay's and Jazz's tone characters in an all updated active/passive mid scooping combo w/Hipshot ultralite hardware.

No contest IMHO

Cheers,
Wallace

Any particular reason you're only considering Corts? I've owned 2, a Curbow 5, and a GB 35A. Wasn't too fond of either, but if I had to choose one, it would be the curbow, hands down. I liked the sound and feel much more. I'm pretty sure the GB is at the bottom of their line, so it's not much of a surprise that it felt and sounded that way. Neck needed to be shimmed, and action was still horrible. It's possible I stumbled across a lemon, but that bass went out the door as quick as it came in.

The string spacing on the 2 I had were entirely different also. Curbow it was real tight, GB real wide. You might want to check out what feels best to you. When I initially switched to 5s I hated the wide necks, after years of playing them, I prefer them.

There are tons of other basses (IMO) more deserving of your attention than Corts, so I'll ask again, any reason you're pointed in that direction?

Are any upgrades needed in the way of preamp or pickups in the GB75?

I own a GB74. Preamp removed, instead a passive tone control and a midsweep module from John East.
Also replaced pickups. Not bad, the originals. But I had better so I swapped.
Lightest bass I ever played. Good balance though.
Set up to taste and enjoy.

Reason? Price. Lots of other basses are made in the same factory. Recommended. Price.

Alright Joe, but you respectively mentioned a luthite Curbow and an agathis GB series

Tonewoods are now better on the one Curbow he mentioned (with dual cheap Barts) and certainly better on GB75 (or way more so on GB95)!

So you're definitely right, but talked about slightly different instruments.

PS: no hurt my friend, it's just that I'm out for lunch break and have no smilies available from TB i-phone App at the very moment.

Cheers,
Wallace

Ended up with a Curbow 52. Love it! Sounds tight and punchy. Sounds best with nickel strings. Stainless steel was too bright. Can get the action super crazy law with no fret buzz. The neck is amazing. It plays better than my Lakland and Warwick! Thinking of getting the 41 or 51 to compare?

hi aussietc

I have and play one GB75, and can tell you is very very very good bass for the price. The neck is very comfortable, and the body have good design. And the look is great.

the 5 string is delicious

Ash body in two pieces, maple neck and rosewood finger board (exist one version whit maple fingerboard)

The bass have good hardware (schellar lic), the electronics is migthymite, and dŽdaddario string, from factory. The bass is extremely versatile, you can pass musicman similar sound to presicion similar sound. Ah and the slap switch is powerfull. The eq es very strong, effective and the battery lasts much

I love this bass.

AL most in chile, this bass is the best in the price, similar basses whit similar electronics, hardware and wood, is more expensive.

In this moment only have one detail. But is not serious. The jazz bass pickup in the neck, is single coil and is not complete noise less. Ever have a very little hiss. If you move the balance knob, to he neck, the hissss is more high.

Think the solucion is change this pickup for some fender noisseless jazzbass pickup or bass lines double coil.

But for me... this little hiss, is not problem

(sorry for my english)

+1 with what you said

A very very very very good bass indeed...

BTW, stickin' to Aussie, he opted for the better Curbows out there: former luthite/mono Bart aren't in the same league IMO.

Cheers,
Wallace
