Question Cort GB-75 natural ? Brubaker brute ??

Sign in to disble this ad
in an effort to use more inexpensive bass's on stage. I play 5 nights a week 40 weeks a year.i have been looking for something on the cheaper end of the spectrum so I can leave my high end bass's at home. I want to stick with a 34" scale 5 string bass.I am sure I will be buying a Brubaker brute JJX-5 , but have found a Cort GB75 in natural finish for 449.00 new , and am just wondering if it will be a let down going back and forth from the brubaker to the cort , or will it be an easy jump. I don't have any way to try out a cort gb75 other than just pulling the trigger on it, i played a friend's brute and just fell in love with the neck. Will the cort be comparable?? I live in a very dry climate so I want to stay with a maple fingerboard, i have a bass with a rosewood board that is shrinking because of low humidity so I want to retire it to the humidifier in the closet to save it .

I'm not sure your maple fingerboard not shrinking idea is completely true. My Lakeland Skyline 55-02 had a maple fingerboard and during the first winter I owned it, the fingerboard shrank and the fret ends became a hacksaw until I filed them down. My two rosewood fingerboard basses haven't had that problem and they are both over 4 years old (and one of them was played for an hour in the rain on a Christmas float). The only bass I own that hasn't had ANY fingerboard shrinkage is my NS/Stick but it has a Carbon Graphite neck

As far as an inexpensive and flexible bass for playing out I like my Line 6 bass. They can be found used in the $400-$500 range. After I updated the firmware I didn't have any problems with mine. You'll never tire of switching between all the models.

You won't beat the Brute. With a pickup upgrade it may just outperform your high dollar basses.
