Craigslist Score! -- Kubicki Content

Sign in to disble this ad
I was just purusing CL adds using http://www.allofcraigs.com/ and came across an ad for an '89 Kubicki. Looked to be in pretty good shape so I set up a meeting.

Well when I met him to look at it, it was in pristine condition. Apparently his ex-wife played this one summer for about 6 gigs and it's been in the case ever since. The paint doesn't have one ding, scratch or otherwise, and the screwheads are just starting to get a tad of rust but the tuners, preamp, neck, frets, etc are in incredible shape.

Not bad for only $800.

The fretboard is now soaking in some baby oil...

I figure this is my one-time score. I usually don't find these either.

Thanks!

It came from North Windham, CT - I just did a search for "Kubicki Bass" on allofcraigs.com on a whim.

I never thought I would like one of these as I am a traditional Fender type guy, but about ten years ago, I played the sound check with Little Feat, using Kenny's bass. Man, I came away really impressed with it's playability and tone. I think he was running an SWR Goliath rig at the time. That partially influenced me to get a G III five years later.

I've kept my eyes peeled for a Kubicki since, but haven't found one in the price range I'm willing to spend. (It would have to be a similar bargain as this one)

Congrats!!

A true modern classic. Most Factors saw a lot of action, it's incredibly rare to find one so minty fresh. You could flip that thing and make a heap of cash. It's only going to increase in value, especially if/when the economy recovers.

Hey, you changed the strap buttons! Looks like you added one on the bottom too!

I'm pissed, you got to this before I did...(yes, that is sour grapes ;-)

Yeah... I add Dunlop straplock buttons to all my basses. To make this thing complete, I just ordered replacement pickup adjustment screws from Phil. These are the only hardware that is showing any kind of rust.
