| Before the Mods move this thread, I have a 4002. I also had a 4001 in the past. Due to a synergy of the body construction, materials used, pickup configurations (not just the windings with 44AWG wire) and such, not to mention the 33 1/4 inch scale, you're just not going to get a Rickenbacker tone from anything but a Rickenbacker. Case in point: in addition to all the above, I also have a P-style bass with a Rick HB-1 pickup in the P position (d-g segment). Does it sound like a Rick? No, it sounds like a P-bass, albeit with a bit more "push."
Bottom line (pun intended): if you want a Rickenbacker, save your $$ and purchase a Rickenbacker.
