custom Stingray with albasia neck and sungkai (indonesian ash) body

Sign in to disble this ad
few days ago,i got a custom bass with Stingray model from my friend it has 21 fret,an albasia neck and sungkai (they call indonesian ash in my country) body, and EMG-SSD double humbucker pickup (passive). in my country, many luthier use sungkai as a replacement for ash because it is cheaper than ash and has the similarity look. but, many people underestimate this wood because it just similar from it look but the tone is not good as ash

honestly this is my first bass with sungkai body and albasia neck, but i realized that the sound is fairly good enough i think. i got it for only 100 bucks from my friend,it is cheap isn't it? then i recorded it. i just want to know, what do you think about it sound?

here is the picture

here is the link to my youtube channel Testing Custom bass Stingray model w/ EMG-SSD .wmv - YouTube (sorry for my sloppy play) it is direct recording thorugh my M-audio Fastrack Pro with no effect at all)

Beautiful bass. You should really title your thread 'Stingray Clone' though.

Hey there, OP. I normally don't jump into threads, just read them. However, for $100 I think you may just have the highest value bass on the planet. I watched your video. There is a very good tonal balance between your bridge and neck pickups - they aren't too dissimilar and they blend very well. Better than most I've heard. You made a great deal. Enjoy.

Wow! That looks great and sounds great. If it plays as good as it sounds you hit big time!

Congrats!

Impressive, I can't imagine how your builder pulled this off for $100. The pickups alone in the US would be more than that. Heck, I've paid $100 for just strings. You got a steal of a deal. The recording was very good, one of the better "stingray" type recordings I've heard, as someone else already said, the bridge and neck pickups sound very balanced and play well with eachother. Your playing is very good as well.
Enjoy your new bass!

thanks for all of your compliment

i bought this bass in used condition,i dont know how much did my friend spend to build this bass, but i think not more than 200 bucks

this is the first EMG i ever had and i love the tone of this humbucker. honestly i dont realy interest of any EMG because i think EMG is so modern and cant get closer to vintage style, but i was wrong, EMG did the job very good for the tonal i think,
