Hey, found this on craigslist and I was wondering if you all thought it would be a good deal or not. Just trying to make an informed decision here.

Every MTD (grand total of... 2) that I've played has been great... Although I've never played a 6 string (mostly because I've never been terribly interested).

However... the price seems a bit steep to me. Probably not everyone will agree, but you'd be paying full blown retail plus some. I mean... maybe those upgrades are REALLY good, but it's still a used bass and I don't see the point in selling it for that much. For that reason, I would probably say it isn't really a good deal. If you're just looking for a good bass and not a bargain... That's probably a different story. Granted, if you're looking for a nice solid bass, you really would need to play it.

Are you in a position to try it out in person?

Play it before you decide, but the expectation that putting money into a bass will help you get money out is a misleading one. He added the aesthetic touches to his taste, so those go out the window. The pickups and wiring are another beast, but most savvy traders know that you normally take a bath on upgrades like that.

If he is actually motivated to sell for money, he will try to work with you. If he is not truly motivated, it will show. Offer what you think is truly fair.

I know the 5ers pop up on here with some good pre and/or pick up mods for less than 1/2 that price. I sold my KZ5 w/ soft sided hard case and a Bart NTMB pre for $720 shipped. The mods can make it more attactive to the right buyer but don't really add much to the price, especially the cosmetic ones.
