daisy rock or epiphone?

Sign in to disble this ad
ive started to teach my girlfriend to play bass and after playing a few of mine she liked my ibanez because it was lighter and smaller than my other basses but she wants her own. i have a rockbass vampyre that ive been trying to sell or trade to get her a bass that will fit her and will be a good bass thats worth upgrading rather than getting rid of if she grows out of it.

now shes a huge ace frehley fan so i was thinking about getting an epiphone les paul standard and customizing it to look like aces guitar or a daisy rock stardust elite which might be a better fit for her as shes 4'11" but i havent played either bass and i can find them online for the same price but i have no experience with either. im leaning towards the daisy rock cuz i think she would love the color and look and the les paul will cost to make it look like aces guitar BUT she does worship ace and that could be a cool down the road when im not broke project.

anybody played either bass? knowing the pros and cons of quality and playability would make it an easier decision as no store within atleast 50 miles of me has either.

I hate to admit it, but I played a friend's Daisy Rock Stardust Elite in the dark purple burst...and I loved it. I loved the shape, loved the feel, and loved the fit & finish. It's a medium scale, active EQ, two humbuckers, and it played really well and sounded good. It was pretty punchy. The neck felt pretty good, not too small for me, but definitely not P-bass territory. I think the body is mahogany, and as I said before, the finish was really nice. My friend got the bass as a gift from her boyfriend and he had a setup done, but I'm pretty sure they go for about $350 retail.

I would probably buy one, but I'm not nearly hip enough to rock a purple glitter bass and get away with it. Really.

Daisy Rock is a good option. Maybe even a little Gretsch Electromatic might be good to look at as well.

I cant somment on the Daisy Rock, but my local Sam Ash had one of the Epi Les Paul's in stock awhile back.
I dont know what it was made of but it was absurdly heavy. My kids were with me and after picking up a bunch of other basses that day, we all agreed that the Les Paul was the heaviest of the bunch.

Since your GF is very petite, the Epi might be too much for her in the weight dept.
To be fair, I dont know if that one was a rogue bass or if they're all that heavy. I havent seen one in quite awhile now.

But keep that in mind-you dont want to get her something that blows out her shoulder!

+1 on the Gretsch, can't really go wrong for $244
