Hi everyone, may I join?
I play a Longhorn Dead On '58, believed to be a Korean reissue. Just about getting used to the short neck, has anyone tried short scale D'Addario Pro-Steels (45-100) on one before?
Cheers!

Long Horns

And lastly, I'd like to sell the hard-plastic case my '58 Dead-On Long Horn came in. Mint cond. I'm thinking $25.00 + actual shipping cost. Thanks.

SBT !!!! thought i was the only one who still had one. I only have the head though. I have that bass also. thinking about changing the pickup as IMO the stock doesn't sound anything like a fender pbass. Chorus effect is actually very good. there are a few good videos out there with the bas player from Steppenwolf playing thru SBT's and a scroll bass. Great sound.

here is mine before i had it refurbed. now it is like new.

Choice of flatwound/tapewound for a Longhorn?

Hi everyone,
Apologies if this has come up before in this or other threads but I'm still not quite sure of the answer.

I'm after a set of flatwound or nylon tapewound strings for playing dub/reggae styles but get the impression not all short scale strings will fit gauge or length-wise.

I have a recent Korean Reissue Longhorn and have narrowed down three options:

1) La Bella Electric Bass Guitar Deep Talkin' Short Scale Flatwound .039-.096

2) D'Addario Short Scale Chrome Flatwounds .045-.100

3) D'Addario Short Scale Black Nylon Tapewound .050-.105

I would appreciate any feedback on what would or wouldn't fit, for example I'm not sure a heavy .105 E string would fit through the nut etc.

Cheers for any help!

i just put some labella flats on the DC up above. Ordered these about 18 months ago, took about 3 months for labella to send them to me. these are the ones with the guitar tuner size ends so no mod necessary. scale was 39-96. cleaned up the fretboard, tightened up the truss rod and put these on. they sound great and the bass sounds awesome. original strings from korean factory where on it but honestly not much use. took the time while waiting for the stew mac fret oil to dry to look over the bass and decided to add just a little copper shielding tape as there was NONE to be found.... not sure it made a difference but i am convinced it did a little. maybe some sheilding paint on the laminate sides next time i open up the can.

anyway i highly recommend the labella set. they also make one 31.5 scale lenghth guitar tuners 39-96 for the longhorn as i have one set. You can order Labella strings pretty cheap from Imperial guitars in newburgh NY, which is where the labella factory is. good guys to deal with, not sure about the turnaround time though....

I don't have any recent experience with the strings mentioned but I did put longscale strings on my Longhorn with no problems. I cut them to length needed, unwrapped a bit of string from the inner core and passed that through the hole in the tuner. Works great, but that was round wound strings (Elixers). Not sure how flats would work. The outer wrap may not go around the tuner without unraveling or worse breaking. You may want to check to see if Labella new white tape wound come in short scale. I think that would work great for the music and sound your looking for. Another option I have used in the past was pressurewound or ground wound. I know some companies are making shortscale sets and they make a good compromise between rounds and flats. Any strings that I have run into over the years that were made for shortscale basses seem to work on the Danos. I've tried many with no problems and I usually ran standard gauge with the E string .100. Slightly larger or smaller shouldn't make a difference. Hope this helps!
