I'm still curious about the earthing? Does the buzz get quieter with your hands on the strings? If not, does it get quieter when you touch the case of your lead, assuming it's bare metal, otherwise touch the metal of the plate for the output jack.

What you're describing sounds like a grounding issue to me.

No there is no difference where I touch the bass. Touching strings, pickups or jackplate makes no difference. Right now at 10 am their is absolutely no noise. It is dead silent. After 4 or 5 pm it starts to make noise. I notice my Jack Casady doing the same thing, but its much less noticeable. Probably the cheap amp that has no ground switch. I should know next Friday when the new amp is here.

It sounds to me as though some electronic signal that comes on later in the day is causing interference. Do you live near a restaurant with a large fluorescent sign or power lines which may producing more power later in the day? Do you live near a hospital?
Danelectros have always been very spartan in construction. I have a '58 Silvertone and a '68 Long Horn and they have very little shielding. There's some source of RF energy nearby which is causing this. The fact that your Epi is showing this would indicate that it's external. My electric blanket causes clicking in my clock radio when it comes on in the morning, next to the bed. Does your air conditioning come on in the afternoon? You may have a noisy fan motor in it.

i love my Danelectro's. got a longhorn Bass 6 and my beloved Stan and Dan Doubleneck. i've used the doublenecks Bass and Guitar for many recordings separately . once tried buying a shorthorn Bass thinking it would sound the same but alas it did not.

Mine is as noisy as a Jazz Bass. Quiet when both pickups are on evenly (humbucking) and varying amounts of single coil noise with one pickup, depending on how close you are to transformers in your amp or other gear.

IIRC they are not reverse wound so they are never really humbucking unless the new model is different.

OK, I could be wrong. I'll investigate further.

That would explain why the Jack Casady is quieter then, with it's humbucker. Actually, the Casady has a low impedance output, so should be noticeably quieter.

casady is a low impedance HB. quietest pickup i have ever heard. wish someone made a replacement one of those pups

Thats why I believe its interference. The Casady I was told was one of the quietist basses around and when I could here it a bit in the evening with the amp and tascam bt 1 with headphones I knew something was up! Hey I want to join the club too!
