Dear Fender: How many reds do you need?

So, there's:

Candy Apple Red (silver undertones)
Candy Cola Red (gold / brown undertones)
Fiesta Red (kinda pinky-orangey, depending on angle, lighting, and how it was photographed)
Mystic Red (spooky name...not sure where it fits)

I'm sure there are others, past, present, and future, but too lazy to dig any deeper.

Is all this really necessary?

I'm still waiting for my personal favorite: Hooker Red. Ain't no doubt...it's RED. It either makes you angry, horny, or hungry...perhaps some combination of some or all.

The page above does not include one of my favorites, Morocco Red.

Well, red's always been a popular color, look at other brands, when I ordered my car they had 3 reds to choose from and for a car manufacturer that's a lot.

I guess there's a market for it (created by us - players) or otherwise all those colors would not have been kept in the catalogue. Mind you, large manufacturers often want to limit the color options, it makes logistics a lot easier / faster / cheaper.

Not hungry- orange does that. It's part of 'color psychology' and the reason so many restaurants have a lot of orange in their interior.

Red guitars look great next to Fender amps, IMO. I have a Candy Apple Strat Plus and Tweed Bassman.

Every red bass I've ever owned hasnt worked out for me for one reason or another.

Love how they look but I doubt I'll ever buy another one.

They have tons of reds but only one black, two if you count black sparkle, which I don't since I never see them.

I've always wondered why they don't have a beige. Seems like it's a popular (though boring) color in clothes and house paint.

I used to own a '97 American Deluxe Jazz V in Red Burst. It had an Ash body. The grain showed through in the middle and the edges were more metallic flake red. It doesn't show well in the pic below (a 4 string version) but that's the finish.

Here's the thing. Why are there some many red Corvettes? They sell. It's really that simple. I have read posts for years here of people saying "Why don't they make a bass that's somewhere between Salmon and Shell Pink? Fender is dumb!" It's because that color wouldn't sell. Pure and simple. Red sells.

And your last sentence is classic. Love it.

Only two actual blacks (just found Montego Black). The rest are either specialty jobs like paisleys and sparkle and the rest aren't really black.
