| | | | I sorta still have it , its an old Hoyer EB0 knock off I picked up for 10 bucks at a garage sale, neck split up the center , wasnt worth fixing , still have the body , top has delaminated off of it now , but I cannot bring myself to junk it, after that I got a brand new MIM P-bass, HATED the hell out of that one, sold it and bought a new (at the time ) TNT 115 amp and a cheap Epiphone PJ accubass, loved playing that thing , couple years ago traded that one off for a yammaha RBX270 fretless (the Epi could have been considered fretless up to the 5th by the time I was done and ready to get rid of it , i gigged the hell outa that bass, no backup either , it never let me down). Just recently sold the TNT combo after it had sat for the last 10 years or so, for $75 more that I had paid for it new. The real first I regret getting rid of was a 1965 Strat american sunburst, I got thrown in jail and needed to make bail, sold it for 75 bucks to pay the fine, that one still hurts to this day |

The one that came after that, my second bass, that one I miss, for sentimental reasons, every now and then. Yamaha RBX250 in gloss black. Yummers. |

I remember plugging it in one last time and thinking man this sounds great but I wanted to trade it for an acoustic guitar. The guy I traded it to painted it all wacky with bad paint and then ended up giving it away. So kicking myself for letting that one go.

It was a red squier p bass, i just didn't give it enough time to learn anything, i took it up again a couple years later and never looked back.

It doesn't hurt that my 3 basses each have their own voice, and it's the only 4 string, or that it's a little better than many first basses. It's an Ibanez SR 300DX, and I love it! Active pickups, nice thick bottom, with good highs. Can't imagine even considering getting rid of it.

This bass has been to hell and back, it went under water in Katrina and was thrown in a pile of trash when they were cleaning up, was completely defretted with no tools other than a pocketknife (and re-radiused and finished in epoxy, so no gaping holes from nasty tear out or anything), both strap buttons are stuck in place with toothpicks and wood glue, and all the wiring inside is done by twisting the wires and wrapping them in electrical tape (more because I change it so often than anything else)
despite all that it's still my number 2

| | | | My first bass was a no-name Hofner copy that I briefly owned in the '70s and sold. (My primary instrument then was guitar.) Years later, I got an Electra Phoenix Bass, which I also sold after awhile. But I still have my first Fender, a '95 AmStd P Bass that I bought new, and I still play it regularly. Tort and flats, baby! |

I decided to keep my bass, and save up the cash to get a new electric guitar. Here I am now with my thunderbird, my silvertone, and my new epiphone les Paul gothic Floyd rose model guitar. I'm quite happy, because now I can keep the first bass I owned, maybe mod it up a bit, and when I'm older, I can tell stories about how my dad got me started with this instrument. Thanks for all the stories, and some of you seem to have started on some rather nice basses

This is my first bass, my uncle gave it to me when I was 11. It's a 60's Panda made in Japan. I would like to restore it if someone knows a great tech. |
