| | | | You're not kidding about great customer service! Sheldon gave me a call! Got the info I needed. I was going to post it here, but it is a pdf file.
I put in a Audere 4-band with the Z-switch, with series/parallel switches for the pickups.
It's too late for a loud sound check, but so far at bedroom levels, it sounds great.
I must say that the bass as it came stock sounded great, with an innovative, yet easy-to-use interface. I just wanted it to do some odd-ball stuff too. |

| | | | I went with the volume, balance, stacked high/low mids and stacked treble/bass. |

| | | | Active Dingwall ABZ and rigs.. I've just fitted a John East P-Retro preamp to my ABZ.. easily reversible, much wider tonal range.... Kept the pickup selector the same, two new stacked knob - first is pull for active/volume/tone second is top/bottom boost/mid boost/frequency sweep and pull for bass boost.. Uses internal rechargeable battery good for about 40 hours, charged through the unused part of the stereo jack ...

One MP3 is the Dingwall Voodoos and the other is the Payson Fanned Nickel Steel Strings.
Den makes no apologies for his heavy handed biker style bass.
Recorded in his living room with a Zoom H2…2000 Dingwall Z2 Voodoo .. Using a Genz Benz Shuttle 9 on a 12 cab.
All tone controls on the Bass are set flat, until otherwise noted at the end of the clips.
One thing I like in Den's recording approach is that he takes the time to get the actual bass guitar away from the mic eliminating extraneous clicking noises.
He wrote a quick review, but I don't feel comfortable copy and pasting it publicly without his permission. Perhaps he'll chime in.

Just got my ABZ a few days and i love it! Still in awe of how clear the low is and of the vast array of tones feasible from this bass.
Number please

| | | Oh my god, what is this?
(For those unaware, it's a mod for the Combustion called C2. It's like the Dingwall Z1 vs. Z2, only with Combustions. Cheap alternative to the Dingwall-meets-EBMM)
Detailed review of the mod pending.. I have to play it some more right now
How does it sound? Beefy. Strong. In the words of one great man, it's got balls of steel. The repositioned neck pickup sounds better then the stock one, like a Precision but with more to it. Could be because it's a series wired FD-3 instead of the parallel FD-3A.
As for the both pickups.. I still don't know which balance of the pickups I prefer. I like them all. The bridge pickup might be a bit honkier then the FD-3A, but with subtle EQ it's that sound we all love.
And GOD the low B has become so alive now.
Cheers,
Bo

It's has to sound more even with the neck position pu following the fan more closely. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
