I was hoping you would ask about the specs

- Super P5 Standard

I was on the fence for Maple vs. Pau Ferro board... both would look excellent, I'm hoping the Pau Ferro will bring a bit more warmth to the tone.

I finally defined some of my favorite bass characteristics:
Build Quality: Dingwall
Necks: Dingwall
Tone: Precision
Color: Lake Placid Blue (and similar)

And threw them all together into one expensive package - hoping that this might be a possibility for a "lone-bass" lifestyle.

That chrome blue color is just smoking hot! It would keep me up nights waiting for a bass in that color.

Thanks to Rollerberg the natural flame Afterburner 1 is sporting the TI jazz flats!

The action is super low, lower than it's ever been. I needed to shorten some of the saddle screws to get the strings down, especially the B string which is a whopping .136. I was going to have a go with my grinder but found the screws (6/32 hex cap heads in stainless steel) at the local hardware for .30 each.

This bass has the P tone in the neck position and the blueqube scoop switch.

I'm in love all over again.

I took this to a jam on Tuesday and the backline amp wasn't really up to the B string. The Afterburners really like the fEarfuls and a healthy dose of power.




It's really hard to capture how pretty this bass is, how deeply 3D the flame on the top is.

I've been playing the Super P/J 4 exclusively, (obsessively) the last eight months, and the switch back to a fiver string, long scale, 18mm spacing and 24 frets has been a wake up call.

The Super J's just feel like home, and I love the punchy shorter scale on the treble strings.

I'm glad you didn't have to grind anything to fit the B.

For some reason that bass looks familiar. Is that the one that went up for sale on the TB boards last summer and was sold in about 2 minutes?

That's matte black, right? I can't really tell, but can you see/feel the wood grain through the finish, or is it a thicker painted finish?

I'd prefer a matte black pickguard with the satin finish, though.

A Super P is definitely in my future, maybe by the time I can afford to order, I'll also get to play one. I love my ABZ5, don't have any real problems with the long scale B even though I'm a small dude. I'd like to keep the ABZ forever, so if I get an SP, it'll be a 4 with Hipshot Xtender, 2 tone burst (unless they start to offer candy tangerine OR even better; capri orange), black pickguard (white pearl if they offer orange in the future), maple fingerboard.

That's one of the design considerations on this bridge is that if/should you ever need to replace the screws, they are relatively common and inexpensive.

Can't shake the Prairie mentality no matter how hard I try.

Nice run of images. Here's another not to send spirit bass over the top on the color discussion!

A pair of EBMMs in Blue and Orange. Side by side with the ABZ5. They look inseparable, but something will be going up for sale upon the arrival of the SP5 in March.

I admit this collection is insane, especially for my sub-par skill level.

That's a beautiful roasted maple neck on that stingray, specially the tiger stripes I can see.

Sadly all your Dingwalls will inevitably render the EBMM basses idle, it happened to me, and I had a bunch of 'em

Beautiful! Sheldon can set you up with another 'Big D' for your head stock if you're interested. It looks good 'naked' tho...

For a while he used a paint pen to do the headstock art on the Afterburners which I accidentally damaged before realizing its fragility. I put up with it for years. I decided to do something about it before putting mine up for sale (to fund another Dingwall, of course). I sent him $10 and he mailed me a couple of replacement decals. The decal had a big gold 'D' vs. the original black (and "Afterburner I" in smaller black type). It looked nice.

you noticed Good to know thank you . I asked Barry about that D and he said this was one of the very first AB's made and went to the 2001 NAMM , it never did have a 'D" .

i had an sr5 too and always wanted a bongo.
i think they make classic well made instruments in some great colours too.
