| | Yeah, I've been registered here awhile... ;-D | | Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Ashland, MO | | I've posted this pic before, but here we go again. It's one of the most perfect basses (for me) on the planet and the only reason I haven't (yet?) jumped into Super P ownership...
This pic makes it look like Shoreline Gold. It's actually a bit more darker yet vibrant gold in color.

How did you manage to get the big singles casing correctly sized for the ABZ? |

How different would the tone be with a P pickup in th ABZ?
Are there any other major differences between m aide from the electronics and the scale length? I'm assuming hat despite the shorter scale, a P still has that "Dingwallness" about it.
I'm thinking it may be time to sell the ABZ and put he funds toward a Super P.

I put a P Tone in my AB-1. A huge bang for the buck up grade. Very simple switch over job, just a few connections to solder, the pup comes with a wiring diagram, bolts, rubber tubes.
I wanted the full, fat sound that my Super P/J was getting and the AB-1 I bought used just wasn't bringing it. I tried some different strings and Payson nickels were a move in the right direction, but I still felt like the bass lacked punch. The P tone fixed it.
I put some TI jazz flats on it and I'm loving it. It's moved into the front line position, it's also the lightest of the Dingwalls, so while the reach for the nut is longer, the bass is very comfortable. There's a ton of variation in tones now, and right hand position can bring out lots of differences.
I really like the AB-1's. The clarity of the longer multiscale, and the balance of strings is sweet. Having all that upper range to noodle around in, and the chord possibilities, is really cool. That said, the Super P/J's seem to be punchier, quicker, basses. Probably has to do with the shorter scale.
I haven't gotten to try a Super P yet, I can only comment on the Super J's and both mine have the split style P pup; the P/J's if you will. They would be the last basses I'd part with, and the Super P/J 4 would be dead last.

Is that correct? I'd assume this requires a bit of Dremel Tool work. Is there a thread here or in the Dingwall forums with some more detail?

| | | | If you purchase a P-tone from us we would take care of making sure it's the right height. If you're getting Nordstrand to build you one you'll need to give them the height spec. |

I'm pretty certain I'm going this route shortly. Should I email someone at Dingwall to order the right size, or is there a way to identify that I'm ordering for an ABZ5 if I go through your web store?
