| | | | Nice ABII, wa. Is the neck light wenge or dark walnut ?
In time I might let my ABZ go for another afterburner with an all-wenge neck and rounded pickup shells. |

We're starting in about an hour and a half, last show was the 21st but I didn't have straplocks on the Combustion so I didn't wanna bring it on stage with me.. Picked up some strap locks and am gonna install them when I get to my basses that have been sitting at the jam space since the show. Definitely excited to play the Dingwall again.. That tone! |

But I did, which is how I ended up with a used Z1.
If I was just comparing the Combustion neck to parallel fret necks it would have been a whole different story.

I've got a baltic amber Super J 5 pickguard left over from my P pickup tansplant, if that's what you had in mind, shoot me a pm and we'll talk.
I've also got the super fatty neck pickup for the Super J and a stock AB -1 5 neck pup left over. Anybody?

I picked up the Combustion first, and I immediately knew I would hate the feel of the neck. The finish and shape were not my style, at all. In fact, I didn't even plug it in or play a note. I could tell by gripping it that there was no way I would like it. I had driven two hours to check it out and I was hoping I hadn't wasted a day and my gas money. Then I grabbed the ABZ and felt pretty comfortable right away, and I bought it on the spot.
Neck feel is a big issue for me.

Neck feel is a big issue for me. | Same here. I have a history of tendonitis and am very picky about neck profiles. |

Coming on a month now and I can't say enough about how much I love this bass. I have a nes set of Hi Beams on my factor at the moment. Not sure if it's just the new bass (i.e. it's sound and tone capabilities) or what have you but I have to say I really like the strings that came on it.

Neck feel is a big issue for me. | Me, too. I think a lot of how awesome the necks for Canadian made Dingwalls is just that, they are made in Canada using a more complex design and exacting manufacturing process. You aren't going to get that in a lower cost version. It was cool that there was an ABZ at teh store you went to for you to try and buy.
BTW, wait til you try a Zebra (Z1, Z2 or Z3) for the first time! They are even MORE awesome. I would have never believed it was possible til I played one! |

No prob immediately adjusting to the fanned frets. Most importantly hands down the best low B I have ever played...WOW! Awesome tones and quite varied even as a passive bass. Flawless craftsmanship. Insanely light. I expected a very nice bass, but this seriously exceeded expectations. Can't wait to play it live.
I am a believer.

I wonder whether they'd make a passive Z if asked nicely enough. |

I almost never engage the pre amps on the Super PJ, the passive tones are very cool.
There are a good many strings that will fit the Super J's, and sound great. I'm running TI jazz flats on the 4 and DR nickel lowriders on the 5. Lots of choices and flavors to try.

. | Thanks! I noticed it is not a color option for the J5 on the website. I guess it was a custom order?
As always, I'm wondering what other pickguard color would work well, but the white looks great on it.
