I LOVE that Spalt Maple top...
Also, I changed the strings for some R.Cocco Steel 45s. Absolutely lovely tone now.
Cheers

Cheers | That ABII looks good enough to eat! Although it would probably be best to stick with playing it instead.
What strings did the bass have on it before, and what do you like better about the R.Cocco Steels? Any problems with the fit? |

Not sure what the strings were when I got the bass. I'm a big fan of a fresh set of roundwounds (or a very old set of flats...).
I went through an "experimental" period a year or two ago where I spent far too much money on many, many different sets of strings for my much-loved Sandberg Tt5 as it was sounding a little "thin". I tried different gauges; nickel and steel sets from multiple manufacturers... I had always used Elites in the past (UK company). I tried DRs, Elites, La Bella and a few others.
I know this is a question of personal choice, but for me: R. Cocco were without a doubt the best I tried. I love them and use them on all my basses now (except the Chromes on my P Bass). Thanks to Mark from bassdirect.co.uk for the initial advice to try them.
R. Cocco make Dingwall compatible sets. They are really great.
I also ended up fitting a John East pre- to my Sandberg (the 3-band J-Deluxe with the sweepable parametric mids). John East is another manufacturer who has my ultimate respect and thanks for making wonderful products. I think the John East P pre- is used for the active Dingwall Super P (is this right?)
Have fun!

Dispite being light gauge, the E and B feel pretty thick but the tension is really nice (i.e. light). WOuld love to try a set of these out on my Factor or Fender J....but I'm guessing the tension/feel wouldn't be the same due to the difference in scale length.

I doubt it adds much weight , they are on the light side already . As said I'm pretty sure they'll build you what you need/want . You could go for a vintage AB1 for total passive like mine |

This why I LOVE coming to this thread. No matter how happy I am with my own Dingwalls, I can always be made envious of others'!! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
