He said he couldn't do it because it would look weird. The tone has got to be way more even across the strings with Dave's reversed P configuration. Quote:

The most important think is that my friend said he is so impressed with the result he is now going to (try to) order an exact same one but with the ash body, i.e. non lacquered as you get in the new Super P / Z
The question is, will Sheldon do it again for him?

That configuration, without a pg and rear routed, would look and sound killer. I have another idea but I'm going to keep it close to the vest.
Dave was saying he was using SS strings for his B and E and Nickel for his A, D and G to even out the tone when he 1st got it. If you search Jules' NYE live show on YT you can hear the string mixing in action.
I also noticed he had his recent Nordstrand ordered with a reversed P config. Quote:

I also noticed he had his recent Nordstrand ordered with a reversed P config. | Wow! I am impressed as to how well informed you are on this, however things didn't go exactly as Dave planned and I'll explain to you why:
Yes originally Dave did ask Sheldon to replace the pickup sections with Nordstrand ones, but unfortunately these wouldn't fit inside the Dingwall made shells, and since Sheldon was not going to re-cnc a set of shells just for this one application, that idea was abandoned and in the end the pickup remained unchanged but simply reversed and to be honest, both myself and Dave were in agreement that even though it isn't a Nordstrand pickup, it really needn't be now that it has been reversed, because it has given his bass a whole new voice and as I've said, he is pleased with the result.
As for the strings yes Dave has been using 4 flatwound D'Addario strings but with a Dingwall roundwound low B, however yesterday he said that now that the pickup has more body and mid punch he wondered what it would sound like with a whole set of Dingwall roundwound, and it just so happened that I always keep 2 spare sets here at home and since I am not going to be able to go out and play until the end of March, I said well take one of my spare sets you can replace them later on your next visit, so we put a fresh set of Super J roundwound on his bass and oh boy, what a sound.
Tomorrow night he has rehersal with Jools and it will be the deciding factor for him on whether or not he will stick with these strings or go back to flats for the Super P but one thing is for sure his Fender American Standard 5 Olympic White will now take a back seat because while it was good for Dave during the period that his Super P was awating p/up swap, it just does not come close to this new sound of his Super P.
I've just enlarged 2 pics and made them over bright and unfortunately very grainy but you know I wasn't doing a photo shoot when I took these pics, anyway the pics give you an idea how the placement of the pickup and how the top part seems to be sticking out a bit too much but when you look at the overall shot and how closer to the neck it is, it all makes sense.
