Dingwall, on the other hand, seems to be LISTENING and finding out what has created success thus far, so that he can zero in on those factors and make them even more prominent.
He's an innovator, and he seems to be getting MORE innovative.
Most other musical instruments, there's always that notion "The old ones were better."
With Dingwall basses, the question is always "I wonder what ELSE he has come up with..."
And...they treat their customers like the source of their income, which we are -- but unfortunately FEW companies act like that. |

I have some older editions, and I love them, too. They may not be the latest and greatest, but they still are historically cool (Dingwall Evolution), and still awesome in their own way. Plus, I can afford those more easily! |

But it was worth the wait.

So much so that I a myself contemplating the option to take my Super p/j to my trusted luthiers and have the cavity rerouted to allow my pickup to be reversed but before I do so I need to discuss this in details with Master Geppetto (Sheldon) to see if he says I can do it on my bass or not in case it interferes with the bridge pickup or not, and if it does then I'll continue to live happily with my Super J/P as it is and order a Super PZ later in the year... watch this space! | There was a trans red flamed top non-pickguard SuperJ5 that had a special P-Tone pickup in the standard Super Fatty J shell. It was a one off, but that could be something to inquire about rather than rerouting the cavity of your bass. By having the straight pickup, it would be like moving part of the P split coil forward. Plus, the SJ5 P position is about a 1/4" forward from a SP5, so I am guessing it would be very very close to the reversed SP5.

I am not so sure if I want to do that, to be frank I am loving the sound of my Super J/P as it is, and if there is a chance I'd rather reverse my present p pickup instead.

Powerful pickup. Reverse P slant without "looking odd" ('cuz she's a J...with a hidden wild side). Unique sound (to my ear) with solid P fundamentals. Almost certainly something with too low a demand to be commercially offered. Totally a product of Dr. Sheldon Frankenstein, who in an emergency had to get a P in a J's body.
Very happy with her. The only problem is, it's hard to stop with just one. |
