| | Does this bass make my butt look big? | | Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: East Tennessee | | | Wow, everyone is quiet as church mice over here. Must be playing versus being on TB arguing about rounds versus flats.
My quest for a Dingwall was rudely interrupted by my truck. It didn't agree with my choice for where I spend my disposable income and in a fit of rage, decided that it would show its disgust with me by no longer shifting out of first gear.
Now I can't speak for everyone here, but I suspect that many you are like me in that I prefer to buy basses......as opposed to say .......transmissions, intake manifolds, or any other other insanely priced item.
After spending time with multiple mechanics working diligently to pry my checkbook open, I found a saint through a friend. He does things the really old fashoned way and decided that instead of just changing the really expensive parts first, he would execute a little used mechanic move known only as "diagnosing the problem versus the symptom." Now I know that some of you will say that I am making this up, but there are a number of mechanics that deal with with people fairly and honestly. My proof you ask ?
1) Shop # 1 - Transmission rebuild - 2800.00
2) Shop # 2 - MOST LIKELY cracked intake manifold, heavy emphasis on most likely. 1600.00.
3) Saint Willie of Oilstain - Bad throttle position sensor. 37.00 for sensor (no mark up) and 40.00 labor.
Interestingly, the truck runs perfectly and shifts like a dream. Hmmmmm.
I am only slightly ashamed of the fact that I was so relieved at not having to use the Dingwall fund for the truck, that I grovelled at his feet swearing to give my life for his at some point in the future. The bear hug and smooch on the cheek may have been a bit over the top.
Why would I share all of this with you? Simply because I hope to have a firm deal on a Dingwall by day's end.
Please set up a small shrine in your homes for Saint Willie. We need more people on this earth like him !

Mine is my brother in-law who lives just a couple hundred yards up the driveway. Hallelujah, the Dingwall hunt continues!

You were a cute little bugger back then. I'm surprised that your parents let you make such a purchase at that age. Of course, you were sophisticated enough to make some well-thought out choices as to construction, and it looks like you were able to handle the instrument pretty well as long as you were sitting!
Congrats! |
