Please provide a number.

Burningskies always provided adult supervision, and since he's gone missing, we're rudderless and adrift.
Pick a number, any number.
Welcome!

One thing you may want to try while waiting for new strings is make sure you're running the tone control wide open. That's what the PFGWFlats are designed for. They also tend to "reward" your sound by using the neck pu solo'd. ; ) | I'm going to take your advice and check out the PT p/up. What is the MII? |

This thing really brings the thunder through the Faitals. I can move from edge/growl to smooth with a very subtle twist of the tone knob. Is there an inappropriate style or music genre for this bass?
Crappy cell phone snap.

Buffalo, it is almost the right amp. It will move to small gig status as well as back up as soon as my new baby arrives. I love the tone the STM produces but it does not play well with certain basses in terms of low end boominess. There are times that I have had to reduce bass down to 8:30. Interestingly, the Ding seems to do much better with it than a number of my other basses.
This is TB'er JGR's newly designed 6SL7 pre. Serial No 2 is on the construction bench and I can't wait for it to arrive !

I have spent the last three days in Super P build pergatory trying to figure out what I want to do now. I think that I have stared at and studied every picture taken of every Dingwall ever made, at least three times.
Hopefully I'll get it sorted today.

| I hear ya. I think the clarity and P like quality of Sheldon's basses are a great match for the Streamliner. BTW, if you get a chance, try a JJ Tesla (I think their 12ax7 equivalent is called an ECC883) in the V1 position. I and others have found this to significantly tame the boom.
In fact, I have NEVER experienced any sort of boom in the low-end, and could never figure out why everyone else did. I recently popped the lid for a different reason, and it turns out mine came with the JJ Tesla in V1 from the factory. I have read in a number of tube-swapping threads that this has had the same effect for others.
If you want, pm me with your address, and I'll send you a JJ Tesla. I have 3 back-ups and no doubt don't need 3. Try it and see if it helps.

Rob | JJ Tubes (Valves) nomenclature goes like this
12AX7 = ECC83S aka 7025

Takes me back to the old Sound City Bass 150 days, without the worry and weight.
I had an old Alembic F2B pre that I liked. I like the Genz Benz better.
It came with a nice little travel bag, and I love the size and simplicity of the rig. Running it with a fEarful 12/6 cube with the alpha 6 mid. I'm very close to the 50 lb mark for the whole rig.
The Super P/J 5 is getting set up with TI jazz flats this week. I'm loving the TI flats on my AB-1. I think I've found my strings.
Sure, they cost as much as a couple good bottles of scotch, but they last a whole lot longer. They go nicely with an Islay on the rocks.

It seems that my B string always dies much faster than the others. Ive played circle k and dingwall stainless. I go towards a bright snappy sound, so stainless strings are preferred.
Does anyone know of a longer lasting b string for 37" scale? Paysons maybe? |

I'm hoping it's a dead battery. I don't have a replacement handy at 1 AM.
A google search for "Dingwall blown speaker sound" doesn't turn up anything.
Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? | Low B, if the Combustions have a passive switch, or a pull volume knob I'd try that. The blown speaker sound (distortion) sounds like a simple dead battery.
Don't go pirating 9 volts out of your home's smoke detectors. : ) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
