My fretboard has frets and my fingerboard does not.

I call it a "toets", that's Dutch for fingerboard and fretboard.

+1. It irritates me when people mix up the two.
These are not interchangeable terms; they distinguish between fretted and fretless applications, when discussing various woods, radii, finishing options, etc.

"Throat Warbler Mangrove" spelled 'Luxury Yacht' I think you'll find!

I actually made "Raymond Luxury Yacht" the last choice but I spelled in phoenetically as Throat Warbler Mangrove.

Sad to read about the loss of your wife. My heart goes out to you mate.

We are in agreement on the fretboard/fingerboard terms usage.

the finger determines which note on the:

Fretboard - the fret placement determines intonation.

or

Fingerboard - the finger placement determines intonation

That sounds cool. Maybe if I steal it and use it, I may come across as hip.

I cring when folks refer to the neck as "a rosewood neck". Unless the WHOLE neck is rosewood, I find it completely unacceptable.

I think that on a forum that excoriates people who dare to spell Squier as Squire, we must insist that fretboards have frets and fingerboards do not. So the violin family and fretless guitars have fingerboards while fretted guitars and viola de gambas have fretboards. Since the poll does not offer the correct answer as an option, I did not vote.

Now as is fairly common my fretless Jazz has lines so I guess it really has a lineboard....

I always call it a fretboard, although when talking about a fretless what usually happens is I say "fretbo....fingerboard" for the first 2 or 3 times the word comes up in the conversation. After that I get it straight for the rest of the conversation.

I used to call it a 'fingerboard', but I am going to call it a 'slappity plank' from now on! That sounds like much more fun.

I've never heard it called a fingerboard. I call it a fretboard even for fretless. Nobody has complained yet....
