I must say, the thought of grabbing a pair of cheap, used Squier Affinities and swapping the necks does sound intriguing. The whole thing would probably cost about $200 or less. A co-worker of mine has a daughter who's interested in learning bass. In fact, just last night I loaned her a short-scale bass to start on. Eventually, she might want to move on to a long-scale, and a simple Precision pickup configuration with a slimmer Jazz neck may just be the right thing for her.

Standard version. I'd be happy if they offered a J neck on the American Deluxe P.

Former Fender Frank Bello was an alder Aerodyne shaped Jazz bass body with a Precision neck and split Seymour Duncan QP with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickup and BadAssIII bridge
Maybe present Mark Hoppus Jazz is a bit like that: Jazz bass body with Precision neck and reverse Seymour Duncan SPB3
but it sports no jazz pickup at the bridge and infact I'd dare to insert another reverse Quarter Pound over there instead
Cheers,
Wallace

I think Fender came out in 2011 with a 70's Precision Bass.
P-Bass Body, with a Maple-Block Jazz style Neck.
They are quite nice for the money. |

It gets my vote.

Peavey Fury. Good quality. Certainly not flashy, but they get the job done with used prices that make them almost free.

Is that too much to ask? | Hmmm, I had a MIM Precision Bass Special that felt as sturdy as any Fender I've played...and I've had a ton of Precision and Jazz Basses over the years. Sounded great too. I'm not saying they're all like that, I've played some MIMs that were real stinkers. But most of the Precision Specials I've played felt and sounded great to me. I'd like to have the one I sold back.
I've seen some Squires on eBay that look really nice (there's a really nice looking charcoal gray one in particular), but I've always associated Squire with cheap junk. Is that unfair? I mean, can a set of Duncans and upgraded hardware make a Squire sound respectable?

Here is mine | What is that bass on the left? Looks like an Ibanez SR100ish with a Fender style neck, am I right? Was the neck a direct replacement? I am curious, looks like it could be a cool project
