The Jazz width has slapping advantages(strings more narrow at the neck joint), and I'd imagine many bassists find the Precision body more comfortable.

Another bump for the Squier P-Bass Special.

Question: Are you trying to find a P-Body/Jazz Neck bass with only one, solitary Precision pickup?

I must say, the thought of grabbing a pair of cheap, used Squier Affinities and swapping the necks does sound intriguing. The whole thing would probably cost about $200 or less. A co-worker of mine has a daughter who's interested in learning bass. In fact, just last night I loaned her a short-scale bass to start on. Eventually, she might want to move on to a long-scale, and a simple Precision pickup configuration with a slimmer Jazz neck may just be the right thing for her.

Seriously. With Fender's astounding number of models mixing P and J characteristics, and the popularity of P/J config and J necks, I can't believe they don't make an Am. Standard version. I'd be happy if they offered a J neck on the American Deluxe P.

The last one was the former Frank Bello Jazz bass

Now he's with ESP and his signature model (I've one, I bought tradin' his Fender Jazz bass in) is a veritable Precision with anodized alumynum pickguard and thick Precision bass neck, keepin' its trademark P/J configuration, today with EMG-X on it

Former Fender Frank Bello was an alder Aerodyne shaped Jazz bass body with a Precision neck and split Seymour Duncan QP with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickup and BadAssIII bridge

Maybe present Mark Hoppus Jazz is a bit like that: Jazz bass body with Precision neck and reverse Seymour Duncan SPB3
but it sports no jazz pickup at the bridge and infact I'd dare to insert another reverse Quarter Pound over there instead

Cheers,
Wallace

Another vote for Peavey Fury. Just put your
favorite pickup in it. Super nice for the price,

I think Fender came out in 2011 with a 70's Precision Bass.
P-Bass Body, with a Maple-Block Jazz style Neck.
They are quite nice for the money.

The Duck Dunn from Lakland has a bound and blocked jazz neck; older ones had a Lindy Fralin P pickup and usually came in candy apple red.

It gets my vote.

Well, Jaco played a Jazz with a P neck on it. Just the stock J pickups though.

Lakland Duck Dunn. Great neck, great tone, very high build quality. The Skylines are around $1100 new. Keep your eyes on the classifieds and you can find one used once in a while.

Peavey Fury. Good quality. Certainly not flashy, but they get the job done with used prices that make them almost free.

Hmmm, I had a MIM Precision Bass Special that felt as sturdy as any Fender I've played...and I've had a ton of Precision and Jazz Basses over the years. Sounded great too. I'm not saying they're all like that, I've played some MIMs that were real stinkers. But most of the Precision Specials I've played felt and sounded great to me. I'd like to have the one I sold back.

I've seen some Squires on eBay that look really nice (there's a really nice looking charcoal gray one in particular), but I've always associated Squire with cheap junk. Is that unfair? I mean, can a set of Duncans and upgraded hardware make a Squire sound respectable?

They (Fender) made a 'California Special' (I think) back in the late 90's early 00's; it had a p body, jazz neck, & the p/j pickup configuration; I used to own one & it rocked; I just turned the jazz pup all the way down & voila!

Here is mine
What is that bass on the left? Looks like an Ibanez SR100ish with a Fender style neck, am I right? Was the neck a direct replacement? I am curious, looks like it could be a cool project
