+1 on the fingerstyle. Michael has great technique which is certainly a huge component in his sound. Totally agree on the signal chain variables and I'm sure that quilt top adds something. LOL, just kidding about the top. I have a 55-01 and I was able to get some great sounds out of it in my home studio with a preamp and some effects, but that bass just doesn't sound all stock to me though I do hear the Lakland sound coming thru. My 55-01 was modded with MK5CBC pups and the 5.2AP Bartolini preamp and I couldn't be happier. Put a coil selector on it and just love it and the versatility. +1 to these basses are great for modding! Lots of folks seem to like the Fat Singles in this bass lately or the Fat Stacks which as we all seem to agree you can mod this bass to get the tone you want. I almost got the Aguilar OBP3 for mine and if it hadn't been out of stock at Bestbassgear at the time I probably would have had that preamp though I'm completely satisfied with Bart 5.2.

That's not true at all. Stock Laklands sounding how ever they sound is subjective and some times all it may take for any bass to sound better is a proper setup, a setup to preference and the right strings.

The bass in the video could very well be a stock 55-01 and the player is giving a classic example of how a specific bass sounds in a individuals hands.

And I have heard 55-01's sound like the bass in the video.

Me endorsing Lakland basses has nothing to do with my above comments.

I asked but he has not responded. It does say he's using an EBS MicroBass II which is most likely shaping the sound from the stock sound. Don't know what amp since he's surround by different amps in the video. Can't tell which he's plugged into. Could be going direct into the board.

Update on my bass. I took out the Nordie Big Splits (way too hot and way too much mids for my taste) and installed MK5CBC's. Much better.
