Yeah...

... my impulse bass purchase was this: Ibanez Ashula, fretted AND fretless 6 string.

It's just too weird to pass up. I went to my local mom and pop and they had it. Was it a dumb purchase? Of course, but its fun.

I bought a Mockingbird because it looked cool. That bass is the most uncomfortable thing I've played, especially since I'm not very big.

I bought a bass a while back because my friend wanted to go to Guitar Center to buy a strap and he was taking too long.

i played bass on the score for scott pilgram but not the bass battle. that was Jason Falkner who usually plays a mustang and Justin Johnson. Who knows what he played. Starfire?doubt a ric was played. but they can be great basses.

Bwaaa haaa haaa. I placed an order for a Ric 4003 (ruby red) just yesterday after inexplicably GAS'ing for one for weeks. The looks were a big part of it. BUT, I have a friend who loaned me his Ric for a couple of days and I played the hell out of it and convinced myself I needed one.

Wow, if they could make a 5-string in a Crunchberry Beast I'd be all over that!

If she goes for it you owe her a diamond ring...

Cool piece of info!

As for me, one week after watching Muse perform I bought a Status bass ... It was fretless. I don't play fretless.

I've done the same thing (as have many others here), and did indeed practice more. A new bass brings a new excitment back to practice time, and a bass one really likes is just too cool not to play.

I recently bought 2 P Basses from Sam Ash just because I could get 18 months no interest when using their credit card.

I know where I can get a Felix the Cat bass. After seeing the Captain Crunch bass, maybe I will buy the Felix the Cat after all. And I'm clear, no pics, no Felix the cat bass.

I haven't done it but if I get the chance to buy the fabled 15 string Tennessee bass I so will just because it's ridiculous. To those of you who don't know, it's a 15 string bolt on, not strung in octaves, massive neck. It's basically an ibanez gsr with a s*** load of strings

Once I had a Rick bass, but it developed a wicked forward bow in the neck, so I rushed it off to the bass hospital as soon as I could. But it turned out I had a gig the next day. Oops, better stop and pick up a backup. Got to the store, and what's hanging behind the counter? That's right, I bought a second Rick bass, as a "backup". For what it's worth, I did wind up selling that one at a profit later on, so in that sense it did work out in my favor.
I've bought a number of cheapo basses just because I felt like it. They're good for that, though, and some of them turned out to be great players.

I bought this because, we'll damn it, it's a bass and a flower.

It actually doesn't play too bad. If the electronics were upgraded to even mid level it'd be very playable. But even mid level electronics would cost more than I paid for the bass.

Just don't get caught with any of the chicks that Cap'n Crunch bass would attract. (or boys for that matter.)

I once bought a bass because I learned a new section of a song. Not a new song, but a new part of the song.
