ebay fake 1976 fender jazz

As the owner of a '76 fender Jazz this is so wrong. Looks like a VM squier jazz with a new headstock logo and a old fender neckplate.

Its obvious how fake it is but here is my REAL '76

Wow! So many things wrong with that. Wrong tuners. There were no black blocks in '76. Never a block bound two piece maple fretboard during those years. '76 would have the smaller logo with the serial on the headstock. Three bolt neck instead of four. Hell that is an SX body and bridge with a Squier vintage modified neck with added bullet truss nut if I'm not mistaken. Case looks like a real Fender at least.

I take that back. I think you are right, VM with a bullet nut, older neck plate, different knobs. Check that bridge too, import.

Wrong cut on headstock back, wrong pocket depth on neck pocket, on and on.

well, it's clearly not a Squier VM, and the bridge pickup is at the "70s" location (see alignment with tone knob).

I'm not an expert in Fenders, but at least I can tell that much.

The grain looks odd for a Fender, 'though, but it could be a refinish, original being a solid colour.

So, what are the tell-tales that this bass is a fake?

I hate it when people say "clearly a fake" but don't explain why they thinks so... how are the rest of us going to learn?

although, regarding the body... isn't the bridge pickup at the 70s position? I don't recall any SX, Squier, etc etc having the pickup at that location.

It is a 70s pickup position, there are no holes in the PG for the thumbrest.

Probably SX. My SX has a Fender headstock. Looks identical to the photos. Didn't go into detailed analysis though...

The fretboard has a glossy finish. I don't remember any SX's having one.

I'm almost certain it is a Squier VM Jazz neck. The blocks have that dull look that the Squier inlays have and the woodgrain and cut of the headstock look identical to just about every Squier I have played.
