BTW Ebay only listens to official reps/dealers on "fake reports"

no No the 5:15 bass solo. That is more fitting!!

I think the seller was duped. Someone put together a poor fake and sold it to the eBay seller, who is most likely a pawnshop.
He is offering a 72 hr return policy and asking for paypal payment, so probably not a scammer.

I have seen a few basses from that era that had block inlays and even had one in the early 1980s. However, I do believe that this listing is a fake.

- Neither Thumbrest nor Tugbar ...
- No bores for middle PU cover?
- No bores for bridge PU cover? So the body can't be a CBS Fender ...
- No Thick Skin High Gloss finish of body or neck (even if there was black inlays in 76)
- Wrong bullet outlook (there are a few "bullet versions" with 4-point neck - but these look different)
- "TPMN" instead of OPMN
- Wrong tuners
- Wrong neck-head shaping on back
Would love to see the capacitor and the pots ... |

Also is it me or does that body look thin? |

These people also buy a Rolex for $500 and think they are clever ...
I have made a 15 pages "Fender dating guide" (in German for German bass players). I don't tell everything as I don't want to make a "faker's guide"!
What I tell: If you want to buy a Fender 1980 or earlier - go to an expert or only buy from well known shops!
Funny story: Someone contacted me about his Telecaster. He wrote it was from 1972 but the body was repainted and stupidly reliced, the tuners were "plain fakes". He also sent me photos.
I studied the photos a long time ...
The tuners were 100% original. The player must have had very agressive sweat and did not care about the guitar. The guitar was surely used by a professional who didn't give a damn about the instrument. And!!! The body had never been refinished! This was the original Fender painting and the "stupid relic" was real!
There were marks which no faker would ever have made. Too difficult and too time intensve. But the marks could be made by a professional with 200 gigs per year who doesn't care about the instrument - and changes guitars during a gig for some times. It was a raped Telecaster without any fake ... |

| | | | I sent a note to the seller suggesting he pull the item for the reasons discussed here. I don't assume people are crooks, and on eBay, most of it is just people moving stuff. Anyway, here's his reply:
Thanks for the info. Another ebayer had already alerted me to the fact that the neck was from a Squire guitar. I was just waiting to get to the shop to cancel the auction. Any info you can add so that I can properly list the guitar would be appreciated. Thanks,
Dave |

Dave | I commend the guy for his honesty. Its nice to see there are still some people who have a conscience and money isn't the only thing on their minds

They probably looked age & price up by the the serial number and told the seller they'd give him $500 for it.
Ends up not quite the deal they thought. |
