| | | Hey I saw the ernie ball forum that you guys were talking about the difference between neck shapes of sterlings and reflexes, and also the difference between 4s and 5s.
What is the difference? This is the link to that thread: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-ma...st-bass-3.html
I wish I could get a 4 with the string spacing of a 5! Any ideas? |

I don't have an SR5 anymore, but IIRC my Bongo 5 neck was slimmer - but I wouldn't put money on it, I don't think I ever A-B'ed them.
I really should A-B my Bongo 5 neck against my 25th 5. They're both comfortable, so I haven't bothered.
(This is of interest to me because I've been wanting a black/maple Sterling 5H or HS for years, and may finally get around to doing it this time.)

SR5 = Reflex5
Sterling 5 = Bongo 5
Spacing is the same, just a little more depth\girth to the 1st 2. They are close but I could feel the difference between the 2 groups

Bongo neck shape = reflex neck shape, only 24 vs. 22 frets!!!

However, maybe the 5s feel more different. I only have a 5 reflex and a 5 bongo and they do feel slightly different. Both great though. Could be in my head as the balance is different. I play a stingray 5 at work everyday too. That one feels similar, maybe a tad thinner. |

I'm talking as a 5 string... now as a 4 string the Bongo neck is closer to the Reflex\Stingray than a Sterling.
My Bongo5 & Sterling5 are DEFINITELY thinner than the Reflex5 & the Stingray5 I tried at GC felt like the Reflex

| | | | BONGO 5 REFLEX 5 SR5 NECKS I CURRENTLY HAVE A BONGO 5, SR5 AND REFLEX 4. I DID HAVE A REFLEX 5 ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THE BONGO 5 IS DEFINITELY THE SLIMMEST C SHAPE AND FASTEST. THEN THE REFLEX 5 BEING A LITTLE BIT DEEPER C SHAPE. THE SR5 IS THE FATTER, IE CHUNKIER OF THE 3 IN MY EXPERIENCE. |

Its like the younger faster stronger better looking little brother to the p bass.

| | | I gotta go spend a few hours at GC going between a 4 and 5 and make up my mind as to how many strings I'm gonna stick to the rest of my life. Been borrowing an Ibanez SR500 for about 10 years now and just had to give it back to the owner...
