Just picked up an '81 Electra 2271 Longnecker. I ripped out the pups and threw in a set of '66 thunderbucker pickups and a fender HMV bridge.

| | | | as for the knobs and switches on the mpc, the switches below the knobs turn on/off the effects modules in the back. the lowest 2 knobs are the speed/intensity controls for the effects modules, and the upper two knobs are Volume controls.
the 5-way is the pup selection switch. flat eric's links shows pics with descriptions of the selections I believe...

The links give you more details.
Don't see many of them on this side of the pond - bit of a rarity in Blighty!!
So, it's goodbye from #36.

1 - how cheap it is.
2 - how good it looks.
3 - the amount of good things I'm hearing about them.
Does anybody know what pups these came with from the factory? I do like active pups & am considering installing some depending on the sound.
I'll post some pics when I've bought it, set it up & added new buttons (original ones missing!) |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: County Durham | | | boom number 37! Just bought a Westone Thunder 1 this morning & am really impressed with how well made it is. It cost me £80 which is a bargain for what I've got, that's less than my first ever Westfield beginner bass 14 years ago & this is certainly no slouch of a bass.
Good bits:
1 - neck in excellent condition
2 - pickups sound & look great. Took the covers off & these are very well made, got a lovely growl when tone is fully up!
3 - brass nut & bridge are rock solid
4 - built like a tank.
Bad bits:
1 - Quite a few scuffs on the body. It's a year older than me (1982 by serial) so can't complain & I quite like it like this!
2 - Had to replace volume & tone buttons with retro ones from an old radio until I get replacement brass ones.
Really happy with this bass, good to have another 4 string again. I used to have a MIM fender jazz & the fond memories of it are now replaced by the word flimsy! Just needed a good strip down, clean & set up which took all of 2 hours. Must remember to add 'collector of 1980's Japanese Matsumoko basses' to my cv tomorrow! |

Very nice example of a Thunder 1. DiMarsio pick ups. The is a place called Armadillo Music that makes replacement brass knobs for Westones. They aren't exact but very close. Hope you love yours as much as I love mine. At last check the knobs were 45 bucks there. Also on the Westone forum site there is a gentelman who makes a few and sometimes he will sell them.

I was the original owner of a Spectrum LX in the 80's, but the fretted body/neck was stolen in a gig bag in around 1989. I've hung onto the fretless neck all these years. I'm now itching to do something with it.
Anyone know if the neck will also fit onto other Westone basses? Or, is anyone interested in acquiring the fretless neck? Or, is anyone interested in selling a compatible Westone bass?
Thanks,
Mike |

Mike | Looks like no one has answered your question. Welcome to the Westone Club thread. Yes it will, depends on how much you would want, pm me on the neck if you like, and no I don't know of any bass bodies for sale , you could watch eBay for awhile,it does happen from time to time.

Currently my two active basses (no pun intended) are my two Phoenix X640s, one natural and one black.
Here are my current project Electra's that I'm having my repair man fix up and restore as close as possible.
As you can see, I'm a particular fan of the 80-82 Electra X640s and (to a lesser extent) X630s.
Pleased to meet all of you. |

Pleased to meet all of you. | Very good to see you here and I just gotta say I Love Your Basses. Look awsome. I know it is hard to describe but does the neck pup give you the P-bass sound or is it a bit different due to its placement and over all strong deep bass? Just havnt laid my hands on one of these yet. They have to bee GOOOOOD. Welcome.

38 jsohlander | Thanks! Yes. I prefer the pre-83 X640s.
The tobacco X640 is 1981 and I think the sunburst is 1980 (it's being worked on as I type). |
