Enough Basses to reach the Moon?

Jammin along (trying) with Jamerson last night my mind began to roam and I started to wonder just how many Bass guitars there might be in existence, like world wide.

Could it be a million? Also how many might be made and sold (worldwide) in an average year?

Once I know I’m going to (metaphorically) put them all end to end and see if they reach the Dark Side of the Moon!

This question wont solve the worlds problems - but hey – just a thought!

I think your best bet might be to approach this the other way around, which means determining the distance to the moon and then dividing this number by the average length of a bass. If the number that comes out sounds reasonable then voila, there's your answer.

Like the lateral approach.

As this forum is multi demonminational, do I do the calcuations in metres, centimetres and millimeters, or good old feet and inches?

My bass is 44 inches long (1.120M) What's yours?

Good shout V.

Jazz, or Precision? Suggest Precision. (the Jamerson influence). Anyone know the Dims offhand?

I have the first five yards of basses. If you count all the crappy ebay basses, you could probably reach Alfa Centauri.

According to Larry Page it is 41.5 trillion kilometres to Alpha C, that would mean we would need approx :

(41.5 trillion kilometres) divided by (1.02000 metres) = 4.06862745 × 1016 Bass guitars (including the crappy Ebay ones)!

That means there are more Bass Guitars than picks.

Nah!

1. The moon is orbiting around the Earth. You can't simply stack basses to the moon.

2. There is no air in space.

3. There is no Dark Side of the Moon, really. Matter of fact it's all dark.

Be good to think so V.

Further investigation reveals:

384 403 kilometres (distance to moon) divided by 1.02000 metres (Bass length)

= 376 865 686

The Worlds population is 6,692,030,277/8

That means there is a bass guitar for every 17.7570698 on earth.

That’s more like it.

Rock on!!!

Ahh.... but...... could it be true???

Way to spoil a great thread

There may not be a dark side, but there is a side we never see. And that's what counts.

Approximately 350 million basses and quite a lot of super glue...
