epiphone sg 5 string

I was tempted, but the logistics are just too far stretched -- to actually get my hands on it to see what it feels like. I do have a proxy in the Bay Area, but that's asking a lot of somebody to judge and ship etc.

I find it attracts me like a moth to a flame despite not knowing what it sounds or feels like.

I have no idea what the quality was like in that one year of 5's, but the hardware and pickups look better than the current model's.

So maybe this can entrance someone else or someone might fill in some history and enhance or break the spell. Or buy it and later sell it to me.
A worn one recently went on e-Bay for $399; this has spent 99% of its life in a bag under the bed.

I can only imagine the neck dive on that thing. The 4 string short scale models dive pretty well.

Nice man I've not seen one of those before.. A five string EB-3 would be a real head turner. If I were you I'd go for it

I'm trying to get over the infatuation and move on or get to a place where a more rational judgment might be possible.

so neck dive -- good information

enthusiastic go for it -- appreciated. but must try and ignore

In the 60s I always wanted and EB3, around 2000 I bought an Epiphone EB3 which was of such poor quality in so many ways that I got rid of it.
I would love to try this 5 stringer though as I've moved on permanently to fives now.

the SG shape has always been my favorite guitar shape

unfortunately a guitarist I know was in a band back in the early 70's and on the road with a rhythm player with the same Gibson SG cherry. The story goes towards the end of the 5 state tour, that both guitars just fell apart on the same night

not to discourage anyone from this obviously well-crafted instrument
if someone from TB would buy it at least I could stay in touch

It's temporary infatuation. Its sexy and got a body type you like, but after you're with it for awhile, you will grow weary looking at it. In other words, you don't want that thing.

FWIW, I fight the same urge regularly with that bass and the five string Les Paul and I'm always thankful after the auction ends and I don't own it.

It also looks like it's strung...incorrectly.

Only 4 of the 5
He messed up and got one right.
Do you see the angle of that B string coming off the nut?

Me too. I just wish the SG shaped basses did it for me in the same way.
