I didn't think these were available until February or so? Probably the same as the white Epi bolt-on, right?

Where did you find the availability info ?
Yeah, the specs do look the same as the white one.
Might be nice with some upgraded pups.
I'm also considering the recent classic pro model which is $200 more.

For a while American Musical said February. Now they say April. I don't know if either date means anything, but it is the only info I have seen.

You're seeing it right. They've been putting it on the Epi Thunderbird IV neck plate for at least a year now. My sunburst 2011 was built with the button in that location, and it balances pretty well.

Is this the white one you have ?

Can you give any more detailed description on the tone of those pups ?

thats it. they a a bit gritty and growly. nice lows if you roll of the bridge pick up and dime the neck. and it has a nice crisp tone with the bridge dimed as well. i use DR Hi Beams. i own a Goth and the wood grain Pro IV actvie epi, and this one (IMO) is far better sounding, i use it as my Drop D tuning bass to gig with and its very TBirdesque sounding. i have it set up "medium low" so i get a bit of string clank which in turn give it a nice aggresive attack. the neck is a tad chunckier then my other epi's too, which i like (allot) i swap between this and my Gibby Tbird IV vintage SB which i use for standard tunings and it can hold its own strongly. Believe me I was quite skeptical i've read these are guitar humbuckers and was real worried how it would hold up. I also play in a LOUD metal band, i use an SVT 7pro or SVT4pro with either 810 or 215 and it sounds great with all.....

I've seen some of the white ones with black hardware and some with chrome. Anyone know if the black is more recent?

The Alpine White Limited Edition with all black hardware are a couple of years old, whereas the one with chrome hardware is only about a year old - They came out last summer...

Yes and no....

The limited edition Alpine White, that came out a couple of years ago is a standard T-bird with a bolt on neck (I have one of these myself), whereas the one with neck-through is a brand new Classic-IV Pro, which is a completely different beast all together.

I decided against the TV Silver model & went with the Classic.
I'm glad I did, it is definitely a beast.
