Equinox Musical Instruments - anyone try them?
So there's a little company started up not far from me that can apparently make "customized" (that is, they use some basic tempelets and you can mix and match all you want) for pretty decent prices. They own a factory over in China, similar to what SX does from what I understand, and you order the guitar or bass, they make it right there to your specs and ship it to you.
I'm kicking around the idea of trying them out, but I wanted to know if anyone has firsthand experience ordering OR if there's someone out there who has a professional eye for detail - I'm not an expert on the finer points like I know some old pros/luthiers here are.
Here's their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/EquinoxInstruments
And here's there website, there's a new and an old - I'm assuming the new one is the one linked to their Facebook.
I saw his add on CL a while back and called TB'r Shrigg who worked at Zanzibar Music as they had a couple there. He said they were decent starter basses, but sub-par compared to the CV and VM line of Squiers.. I've not played any personally, but I trust Darren's judgement.
Good to know. I've been to Zanzibar a few times (like how they have some off the wall stuff) but didn't see any of those in stock when I went. Answers my question on dropping a few hundred for one - if they aren't as good as a same-priced Squier, I'll pass.
LOL! I think I meant Zamar's,but you know the place..I came to the same conclusion, but there's still one or two that interest the tinker in me. Like the Sonic Blue M/M configured 'P'-bass with the space invader-inlays..quirky,but retro-nerdy cool ;)
No you're right, I did mean Zamar's Guitar in downtown TC, I've been there once or twice. Those Z-names, you know.
Some of the designs are pretty nifty and I like the customization options, but I don't tinker enough with basses to want to drop a few hundred on one that is going to need some upgrades to be really decent. I'm in the market for a decent 5-string (or will be soon) and just stumbled across their Facebook page and was hoping it might be worth a look-see. Ah well, if I were looking to have a project bass I might pick one up (or another SX) but I want a solid bass for some recording purposes that I won't have to put too much extra into in terms of upgrading.
