ESP Surveyor 415 LTD w/EMGs: these can be run 18 volt

I recently got one of these, called EMG to see if, like my bass w/EMG J pups (over 20 years, this one), could be run with 2 9v batteries in series. The answer: a resounding, "Yes, these can go up to 27 volts".

Well, well, well...

(I also *just happen* to have a gold ABM bridge, that will allow a slightly wider string spacing at the bridge, as well as deal with a minor off-centeredness, which can't be assuaged by moving the neck.)

Add one of EMG's preamps to that baby and you'll really be ready to rock!

3 band active eq, native!

I have the scoop knob on my other EMG bass, don't think this one needs it.

Great sounding / playing bass. Played one at Sam ash, expected it to sound like a fender but was pleasantly suprised it didn't.

I'd be interested to know how you wired it up and where you put the extra 9 volt. I just got a 414 and wondered the same thing myself.

marnold, I just did this myself on a new 415. Hopefully, the new battery will fit in the control cavity. I put mine on top of the vol pot. Find the red wire coming from the installed battery. Cut it and wire another 9v battery connector in-series: red wire of existing battery connector to black of new connector, then red of new connector to red going to the ckt board. I wrapped the new battery with electrical tape and a piece of thin foam to "insulate" it from the pot terminals. Fits securely in the cavity with the cover on. Bass sounds great, of course. Now if only I could adjust the MM pickup (too low). Screwed tight against the body...
